Is there any being done for the vintage crowd?
My company is helping with the 2nd annual Modified Reunion in Florida on 2/13/2009. We are also going to work with DAARA down there.
Anything going on up in SC, NC or Ga? I know of NVRA anything else?

I've heard of new club starting up near Charlotte that wants to race, no parade cars. The Southern Ground Pounders outta VA but they are old bodies sitting on super chassis' and last you have that East Coast Ford Flathead Racing Assn.
And then you have the LRC vintage hotline. Heh heh. There is an interest is making a club around here, the interest is there but need more cars and there are a car or two that are being restored now. What I've found is by attending the local track here as a display has generated a lot of interest.

Shoot, I'm late for work....

Southern Ground Pounders, once known as the Virginia Old Timers, had a good idea, initially, racing old cars, in their original configuration. But, as time went by, the human element prevailed, and "winning" became the overwhelming objective. A vintage body on a modern late model chassis, is not "vintage", is not representative of anything, and is not acceptable, IMO. There's 'glass bodies (CAM Coupes), readily available, that could be grafted onto current "open wheel modifieds", for those so inclined, and such a "vintage" car could race every weekend, right now, with the rest of the OWM's.

East coast flatheads, utilize much modern appendages too, and are about in the same category as the ground pounders. Any such vintage "club" needs strong leadership and to decide its real mission. If that mission is simply RACING, why not just RACE with a modern vehicle? That's already well established. I'm a traditionalist, and am interested in old race cars, racing, rebuilding, and showing them, but not a facimile or mirage.

We, Leatherique, have CAARA it is a yahoo group and I was trying to get a sort of circuit going for show and a little go. Got a couple of guys but never got off the ground. Believe it or not I tried to BUT a race track so we could have some place to play.
As far as 3wide site look at the sponsors "LEATHERIQUE" that is my old stomping grounds before I headed south.
DAARA has a good deal and rules to protect the cars and drivers from the dummy factor and tearing up cars. NO RACING play all you want just do NOT BANG, BUMP or trade Paint. The stands like it and the drivers had fun what else can you want?

NVRA RACES period.

What are most of the cars in NC, SC and such Dirt or Pavement?
There is a track by Columbia SC that would let you come and play and I am SURE that with some PROMO you can find others.

Sorry for the delay was down in Florida at the DAARA show till my motor home CROAKED!

UP HERE WE RACE, TURN OVER OR, WHATEVER HAPPENS TO WIN.
They go for for 10/12 laps (ROOT HOG)

YOU WANT A SHOW CAR TAKE IT TO THE CAR SHOWS,
YOU GOT A RACE CAR, BRING IT THE TRACK, AND GET IT ON.

Not meaning to be a smart ars but, why don't you join DARRA? You seem to be close to the action there? I wish there was a club here with those type of rules.
There's no problem starting a club around here and there's no problem at running the local tracks either. Like DoubleZero said, those of us that want to run our cars, want to do so at the capabilities of the car, NOT the driver, any club that forms here should be traditional. There will be no trophy or pretty girl at the end. Do you have a DAARA website or rule book you could email? I'll send you my email PM.

Yea Doc, We loved it there this past year. Our Website is www.thegoodolboysracing.webs.com (http://www.thegoodolboysracing.webs.com) "The Good Ol Boys Racing Series"
There are pics on there.

Years ago when my dad raced with the SGP when they were called "The Virginia Old Timers" they told him to put a bunch of money in his cars or to get out of the club. And so we just left. My dad was one of the guyz that started the Virginia Old Timers.

Yes I belong to DAARA and before I had all the bones knocked out of my right leg the ruff and how fast can I go would have been just fine. BUT since I am VINTAGE like my car is preservation is sort of a lot higher on my list.
Since I split my time between Florida and SC I was just hoping to find a group of like minded to just do it for the reason I did it back in the early 60's, fun. I take my car to the loacl tracks to help the promoter and let the kids get there picture taken and such. That to me is what it is all about when your driving days are over, to pass on the fun you had.

Thanks for posting the rules. It's a start and you are more than welcome to bring your car to any place that lets us run or display. 2009 should be a turning point in establishing an initial formation of a vintage club here in Central and Eastern Carolina to include anyone that is willing to travel.

I've had some other ideas as well: Club Barbecue meet and greet, and then there's the possibility of renting a track on an off night for some practice and tuning. Have even thought about entering a holiday city parade with the stockers on trailers (float style,) in leu of scheduled track time with a local dirt track that night (most parades are Saturday.)

More later...

Jim, I belong to Aiken Horsepower and they display once a month at the local Home Depot in Aiken on Whiskey road. The people LOVE it when I bring the race car out.
The only track people I know in S.C> are Brian Stewart who own Modoc S.C. (the track I almost bought) and The Dinkin's Brothers who own Gordon Park in Augusta Ga. (Another track I looked into buying)
I am hoping to extract the car out of the trailer this weekend. Finally got the tools I needed to do the job and not destroy the trailer or the car.

George, I remember you close to buying Modoc but it fell through for a reason. I've told you before on 3wide how I "almost" bought a go kart track and woke up one morning KNOWING that is what I wanted to do after a long struggle with the idea. Well, it sold...one week earlier and is now a very successful track in Tarheel, NC.
In case you haven't heard Ray Evernham is selling off the remainder of his ownership and buying none other than. E. Lincoln near Charlotte. Here's the link http://www.nascar.com/2008/news/headlines/cup/11/22/revernham.buy.track/index.html
And last, good luck with the extraction. I would probably tie the bumper to a tree and drive away. LOL! I kid, I kid.

I am going High tech to get that thing out. IF the guy buys my 1980 Corvette and the other lady buys the 1985 Porsche then I have enough space in the shop to put the car on the dollies I got and just slide it over and roll it out.
The sale of those two will give me a nice space to finally finish the darn thing so I CAN DRIVE IT!!!

As far as the track purchase the owner has taken interest in the track and it is doing great. With the health crap I am playing with now it is a good thing we did not buy the track. The saw bones even wants me to sell off the race car, boat, and most of my collection to lower my STRESS level which is the main problem he says I have.

I explained to the MD STRESS as I was taught:
Stress is when you mind over rides your bodies extreme desire to kick the crap out of someone who really deserves it!!
