SUMTER, S. C. June 26, 2005 - What started as a drizzle shortly after noon, continued off and on all afternoon and then at racetime Saturday night, the drizzle that had baited everyone into thinking the skies would clear, turned into a real summer rain, causing Sumter Speedway to cancel the program before making a lap in competition.

With the track already idle on July 2, the next racing program will take place Saturday, July 9. The program will consist of six events in the regular classes, plus the Faster Pastors racing ministers will be on hand along with the Joey's Auto Repair sponsored kids bike races. The Power Wheels racing event that was to be held on June 25 has been moved back to July 16. Twenty-five participants had signed up for the Saturday night program with several others expected.

On July 23rd, the 3/8-mile oval will hold its second annual Fan Appreciation Day with all proceeds going to the South Carolina Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. A gospel sign is planned for Friday night, July 22nd and Saturday morning, a yard sale on the grounds will kick off a full day of fun, which includes kids rides in the race cars, a hot dog eating contest, a pizza eating contest, a dunking contest and many more games. Several items will be auctioned off during the day.
