Quite frankly, I don't care at all this year. They've prtty much lost me. Jimmie Johnson is not a very good representative of the sport. He's boring as hell, looks like Jim Carey in the movie Dumb And Dumber (ever see him without his hat?), and has this year won the championship on luck.

Strange, whenever anyone else was winning all the races, I'd at least root for someone else to win. Nascar has gotten so boring the last couple years, I pretty much stop watching.

I feel pretty much the same way. If it were not for Fantasy Racing on yahoo I probably wouldn't watch 2/3 of the races. Between the new cars and the chase system I really don't care much about it. The one thing that bothers me is the Jimmie Johnson is about to tie Cale Yarborough's 3 championships in a row and that is something that would not have happened under the old points system. It's not being old fashion, it's called racing and this new system is more like a "game", it's not racing, it's reality show.

Not so quick there. I went out and looked up a couple of the pre-Chase final points standings. In every instance I show here, they ALL were well before the seaon was over While I agree the chase system needs work, I think the concept itself is worthy of keeping...but only after a complete retooling. (actually, I think the entire points system needs to be re-done).

If your a Dale Earnhardt Sr. fan you won't want to hear this..

Under the new points system Dale wouldn't have won 7 titles, not 6, not even 5, he would have won 4 under the new format. Dale would have lost his four titles from 1980,1987,1991, and 1993 but he would have won the 1995 championship instead of Gordon.
Cale Yarborough would be a 4 time winner, Darrell Waltrip a 4 time winner, Harry Gant would be a two time champion in 1984 and 1991. Bill Elliott would have added 1987 to his resume. Besides his 1989 championship Rusty Wallace would have won in 1993 also. Jeff Gordon would only have 2 titles with his 1998 win and instead of Terry Labonte, Gordon would have won in 1996 which means Terry Labonte wouldn't have a title and either would Matt Kennseth in 2003 going to Jimmy Johnson which after next week would be a 4 time winner.
The craziest of all would be Kyle Petty winning the 1992 championship instead of Kulwicki spoiling the greatest points finish in nascar history. I forgot to mention that Dale Jarrett wouldn't have won the 1998 title, going to Bobby Labonte who would retain his 2000 title also.
