Royce Bray Quickest In Practice
2008 FASTRAK Racing Series GRAND NATIONALS
Rural Retreat, VA (Oct-18) With $50,000 on the line to the winner of the 2008 FASTRAK Racing Series GRAND NATIONALS perhaps one of THE most important practice sessions has just concluded at Wythe Raceway as Dick Barton of Asheville, NY and Hull, GA’s Royce Bray are tied going into tonight’s Grand Finale. Right behind Barton and Bray are Ed Dixon of Washington MO, Chris Steele of York, SC and Ron Parker of Lawndale, NC.
Going into tonight, 26 of the 55 race teams present have a clear shot at the $50,000 awaiting the winner of this unique three race series. The track record here at Wythe Raceway is 18.458 seconds set earlier this year by Ryan Gifford. In the second of three rounds of practice, Royce Bray surpassed Gifford’s track record with a lap of 18.386 seconds averaging in excess of 103 MPH.
Of the top five drivers in the GRAND NATIONAL points after two of the three races, Ron Parker was consistently in the top 8 in each practice session. In two of the three sessions, Ed Dixon was no better than 26th but improved to 19th. Dick Barton was 33rd, 27th and 17th. Chris Steele was 13th in the first practice then slipped to 39th and 46th in the other two sessions
