Charlie Scott before Wendell

I didn't realize an African-American driver named Charlie Scott drove Carl Kiekhaefer's #300 at Daytona Beach in 1956 until I saw this photo and its cutline. Also came across a piece about African-America driver Elias Bowie in a 1955 California race at this link:

Here's a photo from NASCAR Chronicles of Charlie and Wendell. Wendell was racing sportsman the same day that charlie raced daytona. The second photo shows Charlie on the far right with all the other Kiekhaefer drivers and another #300 car.
The NASCAR Chronicles by Greg Fielden is one of the most thorough and comprehensive books I've found about the entire history of nascar, full of rare photos.
