Steelblock Mid-Atlantic Racing Tour

Winchester Speedway Goes Xtreme This Weekend!
The Daytona of the Steelblock Mid-Atlantic Racing Tour continues to gain steam heading into this weekend at Winchester Speedway in Winchester Virgina. With the date getting nearer the phones have been ringing non stop with drivers from all over the region wanting to compete for the $3,500 top prize. With the buzz surrounding this race, expectations from series director Chris Hammer are high. “This race has taken on a life of it's own over the past few weeks.” Hammer said. “We have surpassed last year's entries already and the phone has not stopped for the last 4 days. We are expecting upwards of 50 steel block late models for this event. We better be on our toes.”
Some of the best drivers from the region are entered in this year's Xtreme 100. Series regulars Allen Brannon and Gerald Davis have been hard to beat at their home track of Winchester with each taking one win this year. Aside from these two chargers, add Bo Feathers into the mix and this becomes an all out war. Don't expect these guys to run away without a solid fight from some of the others looking to make their mark. Jared Almarode has been consistently knocking on the door with a pair of thirds at Winchester. Current Virginia Motor Speedway Champion Walker Arther will be gunning for the top spot as well as the experienced veteran C.S. Fitzgerald.
Friday night will be the crowning of the King of the Steel Blocks in a $1,000 20 lap winner take all shootout. This format is open to all competitors that think they have what it takes to take home the crown. Sixteen cars will start from a random fan draw. The top 8 series points competitors are locked into the field as 8 more will be randomly drawn by the fans. In a unique twist, the fans will draw the names of who is in, as well as their starting positions. The fan that drew the winning driver's name will be awarded $100 cash. This should be a race that no one wants to miss.
Also on tap for Friday night is the open wheel modifieds running for up to $750 to win. The modified registrations have been coming in steady as of late and should be a good show. The U-cars will return for their first of 2 shootouts to take home $200. The steel block late models will be running time trials and heats to set the field for the Xtreme 100.
Saturday night sees some new faces as the 4 cylinders return to action along with the Pure Stock division. The U-cars will have their second shootout event for $200 to win. Then the steel blocks take to the track to run their B-mains for the last chance to get in the 100. Once the field is set, the steel blocks will take off for the Xtreme 100. There will be a fuel break at 50 laps, then back to action to find out who will be the Xtreme champion of 2008 and $3,500 richer.
Gates open Friday at 2pm and racing starts at 6pm. Saturday gates open at 3pm with racing at 6pm. Gate prices for Friday General admission is $10, Saturday is $12 or save with a 2 day general admission pass for $20. The Pit gate will be $20 Friday night and $30 Saturday night with a 2 day pass for $45. Bring the Family for a Meet & Greet 4pm Saturday & meet the drivers!
