2008 FASTRAK Racing Series GRAND NATIONALS
Night 2 Promises To Be Spectacular
Friendship Motor Speedway-Oct 15 &16
Carnesville,GA (Oct-9) With Night 1 of The 2008 FASTRAK Racing Series GRAND NATIONALS completed for all 11 regions that make up the FASTRAK Racing Series all across America, Nights 2 & 3 at Friendship Motor Speedway and Wythe Raceway should see racing of near historic proportions if the current GRAND NATIONALS Point Standings are any indication.
A combined 107 FASTRAK Late Model Series race teams participated in Night 1 in comparison to last years 111. In virtually all other forms of motorsports, a poor finish after the first round of ‘anything’ spells disaster but with the unique format in which the FASTRAK Racing Series utilizes, a poor finish does not mean elimination.
Looking at the final results of the 2007 installment of the FASTRAK Racing Series GRAND NATIONALS, Shannon Buckingham lost an engine at Night 1 last year and did not even make the 50 Lap Night 1 Main Event and finished an impressive fourth overall. In fact, a review of the top 11 overall finishers in last years GRAND NATIONALS reveals a little known fact; 7 of the top 11 drivers did not make it into the starting field of one of last years three 50 Lap GRAND NATIONALS events.
With the 2008 FASTRAK Racing Series GRAND NATIONALS paying 30 places in the final overall points standings, when it’s all said and done, the most telling indicator as to the level of competition in each of these events is this; 23 of last years Top 30 did not make the starting field on at least one occasion.
As competitive as the FASTRAK Racing Series has been throughout 2008 in the 11 FASTRAK Racing Series Regions blanketing most of the nation, every point is important in the FASTRAK Racing Series GRAND NATIONALS.
Should a driver not make the starting field in one of the 50 Lap Grand Nationals events, he/she is still awarded points, albeit small in number, for making the attempt. In 2007, 23 of the top 30 overall finishers in the final GRAND NATIONALS point standings had to rely on the handful of points awarded for attempting to make the field.
Perhaps the most compelling thing learned in last years FASTRAK Racing Series GRAND NATIONALS;
“It ain’t over till it’s over”
