Did any of you ever take in the old Chantilly Speedway at Weldon (Roanoke Rapids), NC? It was billed as 1/4 mile dirt (and I believe that was stretching it)? Good banking and some fierce racing in early 70s. Lots of driver feuds. We were racing our '55 Chevy 301 Limited at Wilson on Saturday nights at the time, but went up there when we had rain once and then raced there in their big Labor Day show 1973. We had to run with Late Models, but started on 2nd row. One of the nicest racers we ever met, Joe Huss was a regular in a Hemi powered Plymouth Late Model. He loaned us an axle on our first visit.

try looking for Days Crossroads (between 95 and 125) and I believe you will see the remains of a track near there......

Ran my first race EVER on a sunday afternoon in the spring of 78 in a street stock Impala I had bought from a guy in Fayetteville named Randy VonCannon. I think I spun out 11 times in the 15 lap feature (9 of those times was a 360 which i kept going and never missed a beat). On one of the spinouts I went through the infied and had the flagman (the late Don Macon from Raleigh) on the RUN! They had 2 flagmen that day, almost lost one of them! To this day, the small quarter mile bullrings are still my favorite. You never get over your FIRST.
