Qualifications for the 2nd Annual Shamrock Inn Small Car Nationals at Hagerstown Speedway are partially completed with the exception of the consolation events to round out the fields.
Time trials and heat races were held for the late model sportsman and pure stocks divisions while only heat races were held for the four cylinders.mThere were a total of 133 race cars in the pits; 44 late model sportsman, 51 pure stocks and 38 four cylinders, all looking at a chance at features paying $2,000.
Hagerstown regular, Pete Weaver was quickest in the late model sportsman time trials with a lap of 20.231 while Bruce Kane, Michael Collins and Ashley Barrett also locked themselves into the top starting sports for Saturday's 30-lap feature. Heat winners who will occupy rows three and four are Jerry Bard, Andy Fries, Wayne Walls Jr. and Kyle Lear.
Dave Stouffer, another regular, turned the fastest pure stock lap of 23.417 to lock himself into the 25-lap feature while Hans Stamberg, Dale Hollidge, the 2008 track champion and Greg Heinsey joined him for the front positions. Tony Daniels, Eddie McClellan, Wayne Hawbaker and Jim Saylor won heats to fill the next two rows.
From the four cylinder heats, John Stoll Jr, Dave Leidy, Sonny Williamson and Brian Wentzel were winners to earn the front two rows for the 15-lap feature
Saturday's (tonight's) program will begin with two consolation events for each division to complete the fields followed by the respective feature events. Other specials on the program include the Enduro Championship, a Power Puff for the women and the 22nd Annual Tommy Thompson Demo Derby what was postponed from September 6th due to a rain out.
Pit gates open at 4:00, grandstands at 5:00 and hot laps are at 7:00
