We may have crossed paths somewhere because i used to help John Sears also. In Ellerbe in the early 70s I'd say.Anyway John used a old building right off 220 in Ellerbe as a race shop. Had a old 70 plymouth, then bought a 72 dodge from Petty. Seem like it was the #11 car that Buddy Baker drove back then. Anyway,we painted it a pink looking color and put the #4 number that petty had gave him. The 4 came from a decal sheet that had #43 on it,but all we needed was the 4 off of the sheet. Also,we used a whole lot parts that the Pettys would take off their cars after races! Shocks,springs,etc. Never did go to any of the races with ole John cause at the time i was running a race car at Cumberland Speedway in the hobby class on saturday nights! But as ya said,John Sears was a lot of fun to hang around with!! But was just wondering if maybe you had dropped in at John's race shop at one time or another? I later went on to work at Benny's race shop at Dewitt's, on the#72 cars with Travis Carter,Bobby Hudson,the 2 Dewitt brothers (forgot the first names)and whoever else would stop by!!! I remember JD Mcduffie and Lennie Pond would also stop by a bunch. Anyway I'll hush about it,but it was surely was some times i will always charish!!!

we went by johns shop on the way to bowman gray in 1970 he had my last race with ed was 1971 riverside but tyes i went to johns shop i remember when benny started driving for dewitt i cant remember the names but i do remember one that they called indian

BEN ARONALD HAD A GUY WITH HIM HIS NAME WAS WENDY earl BROOKS HAD his son with him and wendell had frankie and several more we all teamed in one pit and would pit 7 or 8 cars who ever was in the highest postion got to pit first

Kenny did you run with the Taylor boys from Carthage N C . Ariles ,Billy , Joe ,Joey . They ran Rockingham Fayetteville Sanford . My wifes family .later Joey and myself ran mod 4 s.

when i was a child,..me an my dad use to stop by lg dewitts shop there on 220,..dad an lg would talk truckin an sneek a sip,..while i got to play in the race cars,..long time ago...

Naw,don't know them boys. Only been up in this area about 5 years. I'm from Fayetteville but moved to Rockingham back in the late 60s.I ran a Hobby class car at Cumberland speedway(in the 70s) then later went to work with Wayne Gray in the Mod 4 class running at Lakeview and Fayetteville speedway. But i attended many races at Sanford and Rockingham back in their days....!!!
