As of 09/17/08 The Speedway is now back in the hands of its rightful owner.
That being Mr. David *ick.
The transition was completed earlier this morning and Mr. Johns has left the building!!!!!
Jaybird is just now getting the opportunity to check out the place and determine what his plans for the future will be.
Hopefully we will know more soon.

Scoot is doing o.k.
Had to give up the racing after the accident and is now fooling with rc stuff.
he still has both cars and has decided to sale them.
See anybody needing top notch equipment let me know.
2005 and 2006 barry wright can be bought at a steal.
Also 2 aluminum motors and 2 steelheads.

He was in a wreck at Wytheville in August of 2006 and had to have pins put in his hand.
Doctors told him to find another sport.
Between that and the cost to race now he decided to hang it up.

This Rumor may have some truth to it.I had just hung up the phone with someone who had told me almost exactly the same thing.I came on here and LM3 had already posted it.

Wouldnt it be great to get a race in before winter?? Friendship is closing for the season soon,Bet it would be a good car count

Drivers and race fans its is true. I talked with jay bird this morning around 11:30 and the track is back in his hands.he hopes to get a few races in this year before winter. Its all depends on what he has left at the track to work with as far as getting the place back in order. All of you know that a lot of races have names like the world 100, well the first race at 311 will be named the bobby johns race.what do yall think.should be a packed house.

Rode by the track at around 2:30 and noticed someone at the track.Usually everyones gone by noon. Also heard that Bobbys partner cleaned him out at his home.Maybe we'll finally get back to racing at 311 again.

WOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! The man is gone for GOOD!!!!! Thank god the torture is over!! Now we just have to wait and see just how bad things were left for Jaybird. Hope it's not too bad. It's a shame it took this long to get rid of him. Give him credit he was a very smart and sneaky man but the bottom line is he didn't have the money to run the place and now he's OUT!!! I drove up to the track yesterday ..just to see ..happened to get there in time to see the keys to it change hands ..this time its true.The word I had was about the same ,they have to see what is left to work with in order to get the track back in running order.I heard some noise about maybe racing on the weekend of the Martinsville race depending on whether they could get everything fixed by then.

Maybe anyone who will race ought to chime in so they know if they will have a feild of cars worth opening it back up this year .I know both of our cars will be there ..who else will show???:blue26:

I think naming the first race for Bobby Johns is just someone being funny! If anybody remembers when THE BOOB filed bankruptcy and everyone thought he wa gone the very next week he was shaking the keys to the race track in the air at the driver's meeting saying he wasn't going anywhere and that Jaybird and his lawyers were idiots. He also said that night he was serving Jaybird sandwiches in the concession. Alot of us have known he was a piece of s*&! but now everyone knows. Just like his little article about closing tracks down that tried to compete with him. All it took was Jackie having enough of his lies and seeing the real BOOB for who he was. Now she's gone and all HER money went with her. So long Bobby Johns and hope you forget the way back to Madison, NC. You really tried to ruin a great facility and community but the track will be back and the people of this community will see to that!

I stopped by the track late Saturday to show the place to my girlfriend. I really didn't think anyone would be there. But there were several there including Jaybird. The place is getting a makeover. The grass has been mowed for the first time in probably 3 years. Pressure washing going on. Restaurant being cleaned up. That place is AWESOME!!!
Jaybird said he is going to try and run a couple of times this season. So...when I saw that Gene Robertson posted this topic I knew it was true... Let's keep our fingers crossed that Gene will be the promoter.

Hopefully since some of the other tracks around here are not running steel head and spec motor lm's maybe 311 can run them.Should get a good car count with them since the other tracks turned there back on them.

Also to the people that always posted negative stuff about 311 when the people before Bobby Johns had it.Hope you people learned a good lesson from all that has went on at 311 the past couple years with Bobby.And always remember"Be carefull what you wish for you might get it"!!!!Might not get a third chance.Glad 311 is back

Good to hear 311 is opening back up , I can't wait. As far as Mr. Johns goes , we all make mistakes , nobodys perfect .When was the last time that you did something you was'nt proud of ?? You learn from your mistakes and bad decisions. Before to long all of the negativity and bad choice of words will be forgotten. Live life to the fullest.

Just came from the racetrack and talked directly with Jaybird. He is doing ALOT of cleaning up there and told me directly he hopes to be able to run a couple of races to show the people what they have to look forward to. His main concern right now is getting everything clean. He ordered new caution light lenses and bulbs today and is working very hard on trying to open up soon. He and his family have alot of work to do but they are going at it as hard as they can. I myself am gonna start going up there on Sat. afternoon's to help as much as I can. Hopefully the dirt will be flying at 311 before the season ends.
