9/15: Jerry Sink, President of the Rolling Thunder Modified Series announced that The RTM 75 lap feature scheduled at Langley Speedway in Hamtpon, VA on September 27, 2008, will be named the “The Plaid 19 Race against Autism 75”. This 75 lap feature will be a fundraising event to help fight Autism and also help raise awareness to find a cure. At the beginning of the 2008 season, RTM announced that the tour would help the previous season champion with their charitable fundraising initiatives by hosting a race that would serve as a fundraising event specifically for their own charity. This years charity is sponsored by the 2007 RTM series Champion, AJ Winstead and his team #99.

Jerry noted: “The Rolling Thunder Tour continues to grow and evolve into a strong regional presence as an exciting and fan friendly modified racing series in the eastern US, and we plan to capitalize on our growth to help those that need help the most.” Jerry Added: “1 in 150 children are diagnosed with Autism each year, a new case every 20 minutes. “What is most concerning is Autism is the fastest growing serious developmental disability in the United States. More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes and Cancer combined, yet Autism research receives less than 5% of research funding of many less prevalent childhood diseases.”

Shelley Goodall of Richmond, VA is the CEO of The Plaid 19, Inc. and a true champion of this cause and the heart behind it. RTM is very proud to help Shelley with this very worthy cause. Arm Bands will be available for $2 each at the race at Langley Speedway on September 27th, 2008 and these funds will go directly to the Hermie & Elliot Sadler foundation, whose goal is “Helping Kids, One Lap at a Time.”
