Recap: FASTRAK at Eldora, a ‘HUGE hit’ as Dixon takes win #601
There are those weekends in racing when things just seem to go right. The ‘GM Performance Parts 40’ was definitely one of those weekends as the event was held in front of a tremendous crowd at Eldora Speedway. Forty nine cars were on hand to take their shot of winning at the ‘famed’ Eldora Speedway”.
So many things were taking place that Saturday and all working in harmony very well. Ed Dixon #50 had just won his 600 victory the night before and he also took the victory at Eldora making in win 601. Dixon of Washington MO was excited in victory lane after the event. “Man this was an incredible weekend” said Dixon. “Win number 600 last night and then to come here and get win 601 at Eldora! How much better does it get? I tell you something, racing these guys is tough. These FASTRAK teams are the best in the country in this crate engine late model racing. Any one of ten teams at the very least could have won this race tonight. Our car was good and we had some good luck as well. I just want to thank GM, Goodyear, and all the sponsors of the FASTRAK series for putting on an incredible show. This is as much fun as you can have in racing”.
Bill Martens from GM Performance Parts was there. “Man what a night of racing” said Martens after the event. “I am very proud of all the teams that participated tonight. Everyone here did a great job. Who would have ever dreamed there would be forty nne teams coming tonight. I just appreciate Larry Kemp and his staff along with Tony Stewart for bringing these type of cars to the forefront of racing at Eldora”.
Scott Junod from Goodyear was there as well. “This was great racing said” Junod. “Goodyear is very proud to be associated with FASTRAK. The racing was great, the driver autograph session was incredible today. It was a perfect weekend of racing”. Junod is now in charge of the dirt track program at Goodyear headquarters in Akron OH.
No doubt it was a huge weekend. Let’s recap a few of the things that happened.
*Friday night about thirty of the teams got together for dinner. This really seems to be pretty common, as this is a pretty close bunch of teams, drivers and officials.
*Saturday from 11:00-1:00 sixteen teams were at the WALMART in Greenville OH doing a driver autograph session, as a benefit to the Childrens Miracle Network. The FASTRAK tractor trailer was parked under the sign on the front of the building. Cars were lined up beside it on the sidewalk and also the first eight parking places directly in front of. Fans were everywhere the entire time. The FASTRAK drivers really enjoyed themselves as many were putting children in their cars and signing autographs for fans. Goodyear and WALMART executives were on hand for the event. The local paper came out for interviews as well as several photographers.
*Then immediately following the autograph session starting at 1:00 everyone headed to the race track where they were doing a CRUZ IN with Hot Rods and antique cars. Even Tony Stewarts hearse was also on hand.
