The Virginia Sprint Series made there second stop at the 3/8 mile County Line Raceway for there 25 lap feature. Heat race
winners #83 Paul White from Richmond,Va. and #4 Anthony “The Shark” Linkenhoker from Louisa,Va. set the front row for the first
feature race of the night. A total of 21 drivers form the VSS started the race. The fans saw some pretty exciting three wide and if they
got up the courage they took it four wide on the straightaways, but in the end it really didn’t matter what anybody did because “The
Shark” dominated over the whole field to pick up the win in the 2nd round of the VSS at County Line Raceway. The race started off
very exciting with very close racing all through the pack picking up speeds in excess of the Late Models that will be back on July 9th.
The first caution flew on lap #2 when the #39 of Tom Humphries from Waynesboro,Va. and the #6 Tony Harris from
Harrisonburg,Va. got together in Turn #2. Actually the incident started between the two coming off Turn #4 when both drivers made
contact with their rear wheels that forced both of them to lose full song and come to a stop in the entrance of Turn #2. When the restart
fell , #4 Anthony “The Shark” Linkenhoker pulled away from the whole field, like it was a Sunday afternoon drive but he had to slow
down under caution ounce more when on lap #10 three VSS sprint cars (#11 Eric Keck , #J9 Jerald Harris , and #7 Bruce Strickler) got
together off Turn #4 spinning in unison and finally coming to a stop in turn #1 to put out the yellow flag for the second time. Finally at
the last restart it was again “The Shark” to lead the #12 of Glen Worrell and the #32 of Bill Rice to win Round #2 of the VSS 25 lap
event at County Line Raceway. The gentleman who helped the VSS begin it’s 9th season of competion, Director/Driver of the VSS
#F1 French Grimes of Haywood,Va. finished 4th and the #74 Ivan Shaver of Colfax,NC finished in the top five. County Line Raceway
Staff thanks all 21 Drivers, Crew Members, Officials and most importantly the Fans of the Virginia Sprint Series for their support of
racing action at CLR. Round #3 with the Virginia Sprint Series will be Saturday July the 30th and we will see if “The Shark” can make
two wins in a row at County Line Raceway. The VSS were very exciting to start the show but we advertised there would be 6 feature
races and they were five exicting heart pounding races that saw some bumpers get banged and tempers get flared all throughout the rest
of the night at CLR .
The second feature event of the night was the Super Stock 4 Cylinder 15 lapper that saw #9 Michael Webb put the money in
the bag, but it wasn’t easy as #69 Victor May tried to take the victory, but failed as Webb was able to pull away on the straightaways.
The #D8 of Dustin Mitchell finished in the 3rd spot and rouning out the Top 5 were #71 Brandon Wells and #47 Bobby Bottoms. The
#L3 of Skeeter Liles was holding on to most of the top 5 until he went to high off Turn 4 on the last lap and made minor contact with
the #47 of Bottoms and then very hard impact with the outside retaining wall almost 30 feet from the finish line. They saw the caution
flag fly 2 times on Laps 1 &2.
The third feature of the night had to have made Glen Upchurch have a sore arm as many times he threw the yellow flag. Not
one not even five but a total of seven times. The race was the Super Stock V-8 20 lap feature that saw a total of 12 cars start the event
and through out all the bumping, banging and spinning it was the #05 of Mark McKenzie to hold off the #21 of Glen “The Joker” Baker
to pick up the win. Third spot went to the #11 of hard charging ,quick saving driver J.J. Pendergrass and rounding out the top five were
#97 Phillip Lamm and #18 of Joey Macklin. The #R5 of Chris Ray and #67 of Ben James got the fans excited themselves when they
got too rough with their cars on the track and then started bumping one another under the yellow flag. Finally (flagman) Glen
Upchurch departed from the flagstand came onto the track and repremanded both drivers and sent them to the rear. #67 Ben James
finished 7th and #R5 Chris Ray finished 9th after their incidents with each other.
Many local area tracks were rained out cause of the rain however the weatherman stated that the rains
would be near us after 11 pm so it was still clear and the show continued and what an exciting three races to finish the nights activities
at County Line Raceway.
The fourth feature of the night was 20 laps in the Modified 4 Cylinder division which saw the #03 of Tom Ballance holding
off the pole winner and alredy feature winner in a earlier race #99 Michael Webb. The 20 lap event was the only race that went caution
free but the fans still got their tickets worth with exciting passing over and over between #03 Ballance and #99 Webb. #08 Robert Clay
had a good run and finished in the third spot and rounding out the field of the 5 cars and 1 truck that started the race were #46 Jesse
Thorne Jr., #88 “BIG” Jim Massengill, and the F150 pick-up truck of #97 Bill Winstead.
The fifth feature of the evening was 25 laps with the “Bread and Butter” division at the County Line Raceway and its not in
the clouds, it’s on the track, they are called the Thunder & Lightning division and last week 18 cars started the race. Saturday night 10
cars took the green flag with the pole starter the #L2 of Britches Liles leading the field around the first 4 circuits then was overtaken on
lap #5 when the #28 of Elm City’s own Alan Worrells went to the point. Worrells held on to the lead until lap #17 when the #07 Ken
Corbitt who started the race 4th tracked down the leader and siezed the spot and never looked back as he went on to win his third
straight win in the Thunder & Lightning feature. In the end #07 Ken Corbitt snagged the win, while the #28 Alan Worrells had to settle
for the 2nd spot and #56 J.P. Cascell crossed the stripe 3rd. Rounding out the top five were #L2 Britches Liles and #61 Wade Ferrell.
The remaining field were #32 Tim Colley, #43 Pat Ferrell, #25 Keith Skinner, #15 Lee Brinson and #4 car rounded out the field.
Caution fell only two times for the #15 Lee Brinson on lap 6 and the #43 Pat Ferrell on lap 12.
The final event of the night was the Enduro race that went 20 laps and was also a caution free event that saw the winner be the
#9 David Myers totally dominate through the field to take down the win. Second spot went to the #44 of Barry Moore and the final
spot went to the #48 of Timbo Johnson. Ironically as the fans and drivers were loading up to leave it started to sprinkle without a
shadow of doubt the “God Umbrella” stayed over County Line Raceway right down to the end!!!
