Was looking at some photos sent to me from Richard Jarvis and saw this tire. Is this thing buried in the track for a inside barrier?

Yup! Very common for tracks with no inside wall or JERSEY barriers...lol

Looks like it would cause some damage if one was to hit it, no?

The inside of the track half buried tires as a inside marker for a barrier, but
#1 they are soft soft and do less damage then construction equipment tires. Charlie runs the grade over them a few times after he puts them to get them more pliable. But they still show the inside of the track. The tire are like 20' tire
#2 Alot of tracks that don't use some sort of inside barrier gets the infield dirt out on it. Up here the tracks have a heavy clay content and the infields still have just dirt and that is not good for the clay.
#3 When they are new they will do some damage to the nose but not as bad as the big tires and again sand don't mix in with racing groove

it is very bad on the control arms, if you hit one right it will bend the hell outta one.

I have seen Ricky Elliott, Lou Johnson, David Hill, Richard Jarvis, Ray Davis, Eddie, Kenny, Mark and David Pettyjohn and more hit them and lift the left front wheel and keep on trucking. Must be the desire to win...........................

I been going to that track for as long as it has been racing and yes the tires that they put in first where killers, but in the last 10 to 12 years they have put in smaller and a softer tire, and took the big truck tires out, and now you can drive into them and not do much to the car. Granted you are going put some dings in the nose, but must all of us are running ploy- flex front ends.............NO harm no No foul

Personally I like the idea of burrying used race tires half way to keep cars out of the infield.......it's a lot better than burrying tractor tires of having a concrete wall there.....I've seen several cars hit them at DIS and keep on getting it and a few hit them and be done for the night.......

they have mowed all the grass there, now when they get in the infield it's a dust bowl....lol........and I agree there are plenty of old tires there they could bury in the corners to keep em out of there......
