Track was sold. He also posted on the web site yesterday that on August 9th he would be holding a 100 lap Super Late Model Race paying $4000 to win.

No dirt. They wouldn't even approve the drag strip that Leone wanted. Would be nice to see the asphalt removed from out there and red clay put down. Hot diggity damn, you talkin about totin' the mail.

I tell ya, the last time I went there(2003), I felt like I was robbed. Had to pay $20 to sit in the stands and I saw more passing on 301 on the way there and more excitement when two trains were on the tracks, then I did the whole night there.

I feel your pain man, I went to the thanksgiving race in 06 and never looked back. I practically went to sleep. I remember taking my video camera and my friend that I was with asked me why I have not took any video. I told him I took the first 5 laps and if I'm awake I'll get the last 3...LOL :blue19:

You should have been there when the Slim Jim All Pro Series Ran when now Sprint Cup Driver David Reutimann won the race and afterword " The Pig Rig " with Eddie Massengill won the 100 Lap Super Late Model Race !!!

I used to be at Southern National every weekend when they opened. My daddy helped Milton Cooke back then. Back then the racing was good there. Until the track started favoring drivers, like certain ones from Bahama that drove a red Flying 11 car, it stayed pretty much fair. The best thing they could have ever done was what Lamm told daddy he wanted to do. Tear up the asphalt and add a layer of clay. Nothing against asphalt racing here. I loved Wayne County when it was asphalt, and still have a special spot for Robersonville, but it ain't no where near what it used to be.

Yeah I remember him. The one I was talking about was Riggs in the 11. I probably have some of your shots of Milton's car then. That was when he was driving a black and pink Oldsmobile in Late Model Stock, before the NASCAR sanction.

I also took a bunch of Milton at Wayne County & Wake County when he drove a Four Cylinder Modified when both Tracks were ASPHALT , do you by any chance remember when the Hooters Cup Series Ran @ SNS ... Does Matt Kenseth ring a bell ( Drove a Silver Monte Carlo w/#68 on it ) .

That's my intentions too Ronnie. We still talk to Milton every now and then. Daddy said there's only two drivers he'd come back to help on a car, and Milton is one of them.

vThe last asphalt race I have been to was at SNRP. That was at least 4 or 5 years ago. The only reason I went was because thier Thanksgiving race was rained out and it was in December. A buddy of mine gave me a free ticket. Glad he did because i was so bored I left halfway threw the event........Bring on the dirt to SNRP.

Anyone remember that night that "Farmer" John Matthews had Jack Sprague come in and drive Dan's car at Wayne County? Jack waxed the field in that car that night.
