Kalitta was son to veteran NHRA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Hot_Rod_Association) driver and crew chief Connie Kalitta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connie_Kalitta) and cousin to teammate Doug Kalitta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Kalitta).

ESPN just reran the crash and it was an explosion at the finish line and then again another one in the run off sand pit, what a shame..............
A two-time Fuel champion who had 18 victories, Kalitta’s car was traveling at around 300 miles per hour when the engine of his Toyota Solara exploded into flames. The car hit a sand trap, then vaulted over a protective fence and exploded the second time...........

I couldn't watch that. That just wasn't the last run I wanted to see Scott make.
