Josh Richards parlayed a 3rd place heat finish into the pole position for Friday nights main event. With 40 laps and a host of the areas finest drivers, time would tell if the Outlaws hotshoe would be able to pull off the big victory.
The die was cast from the get go when Richards drove the #25 Ernie’s Towing and Hauling Rocket Chassis/Chevrolet Monte Carlo into the lead, Nathan Durboraw would dispatch second starter Devin Friese to put himself into the second slot at the start of the event.
Gerald Davis, who won the first Shootout event, was flying early and quickly found himself competing for the lead, on lap 12 his run would come to an early and abrupt end when contact with leader Josh Richards got into the Davis machine and Davis would come to a crashing stop into the turn one wall.
The race would then settle to Richards pulling out a several second lead over Nathan Durboraw, as Wes Bonebrake was taking advantage of a great starting position and holding onto third, with Jason Covert and Gary Stuhler waging an epic battle for fourth immediately behind Bonebrake.
Also charging through the field were Bo Feathers(who had broken in his heat race and came from 16th spot), and Andy Anderson(who had wrecked his car in the heat and started the feature from the tail in Ronnie DeHaven, Jr.’s back up machine).
Bo Feathers soon found himself behind the Covert/Stuhler battle but seemed unable to get by the dualing tandem, as Andy Anderson came up and battled with the owner of his feature machine Ronnie DeHaven, before getting by in the waning laps.
Meanwhile as the laps wound down Stuhler who had not left the topside finally worked past Covert and began to work the outside on Bonebrake.
Josh Richards though was not headed, he would dominate with only a couple token challenges on the restart from Durboraw, and at the line it was Josh Richards of Shinnston, WV taking his first career win at Winchester Speedway, Durboraw took a strong second, Stuhler would claim the third spot from Bonebrake, with Covert rounding out the top five.
Heats for the 32 cars went to Jason Covert, Wes Bonebrake, and Walter Crouch, Darryl Hills would take the consi.
