GASTONIA, NC – One big weekend, two huge shows! That is what the race fans of the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series have in store for them this coming weekend June 6 and 7.

On Friday night June 6 the nine year old series will make it’s first stop of the year at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, NC for a $4,000 to win 40 lap main event. Carolina Speedway has long been stop on the Carolina Clash schedule and a record crowd is expected Friday night.

“We are having a great season,” said Carolina Speedway Co-Promoter Mark Gibbons. “The racing has been excellent the crowds have been fantastic and the atmosphere has been wonderful. This Carolina Clash race has all the makings to been one heck of a show.”

One of the favorites on hand will be Manning SC’s Ed Gibbons. During the 1990’s Gibbons was one of the nation’s best. Traveling all over the east coast ‘the little man with the big right foot’ was a fixture in victory lanes from Florida to West Virginia. After taking several years off to spend time with his family, Gibbons is back on the road and is looking for his second Carolina Clash championship.

“We kind of kicked back and spent more time on our family business, said Gibbons, whose family owns a chain of automotive parts stores. “We were kind of raced out and racing was not a top priority any more.”

“Now we are more in a position to race more often and it has taken me a while to get acclimated again,” said Gibbons. “It has taken tougher coming back than I thought it would. The competition on the Carolina Clash tour is real tough, but we are starting to make some headway and I think our first win is just around the corner”.

Gaffney SC’s Dennis ‘Rambo’ Franklin will lead the Carolina Clash ‘Bad Boys’ into town on Friday night. Franklin’s solid start to the season has him upon the top of the point standings. No stranger to Carolina Speedway victory lane, Franklin will definitely be a contender on Friday night. Ricky Weeks comes into the series second in points. The four-time and defending Carolina Clash champion will be looking to score his first ‘Clash’ win of 2008. A pair of Gaston County racers will be close to home this weekend. Dallas’ Jeff Smith and Springwood’s Doug Sanders have extensive knowledge of the 4/10 mile oval known as ‘The Action Track’ and will also be looking to collect their first win of the early season.

Also on the card for Friday night will be the GM Performance Late Models with a special $1,000 to win feature event. The fan favorite Super Stocks, Pure Stock Four and ‘wild and wooly’ Renegade’s will also be in action. Gates open at 5:00 with racing at 8:00 PM. On Saturday night June 7 the tour will head south to the legendary Lancaster Speedway. Lancaster Speedway is one of the most historic race tracks in the country and the high speeds attract fans from all over.

"Lancaster is one of the most exciting and unique race tracks I have ever been to," said Larry Lee, Carolina Clash Series President. "That place has the most character and the most energetic fans in dirt racing. They have a sign at the gate that reads, 'Through these gates walk the world’s greatest race fans', and that speaks volumes for the fans of Lancaster Speedway. The track itself is super fast and should provide some of the most exciting racing we will see all year."

Franklin and Weeks shared the Carolina Clash main events at the big ½ oval last season and again will be favorites to win. For more information on Lancaster Speedway visit www.lancasterspeedway.net
