I am not trying to stir any controversy, but it seems to me that Hammerdown has really drawn some of FMS cars. Since Hammerdown has been open, it seems that 10-20 cars at Hammerdown use to frequent FMS.
This situation is shaping up to be another DUBLIN / FMS or Clary's / King's racing on the same night. It is good for the drivers to have different places to go race, but it is not very good for the track owners and fans.
Hammerdown baby thats the way to go!! If i had a car thats where id be every week. It only cost 10$ to get in you can carry in a cooler the purse is more in every class. So why not go to hammerdown it seems thy care more for the drivers and fans!!!
Are there really 10-20 cars that would be considered "regulars" at FMS that are only going to HDS now? I think you'll get a couple that might bounce back and forth, a few from FMS that have gone to check it out, and maybe a few that might stop going to FMS in favor of running at HDS. Where are you getting those numbers?
DJR- Hammerdown is getting off to a fresh start. They're going to do what's necessary to draw fans and drivers. It has nothing at all to do with how much they "care" for the drivers and fans. You can't measure the amount a track promoter or owner "cares" for their drivers and fans by the prices they charge and the purse they pay. The bottom line is the folks operating these places need to turn a profit or the well will run dry. That said, if HDS can continue over time to charge a lower addmision, pay a higher purse, and deliver better action on the track, fans and drivers will be there. Only time will tell.
Personally, I'd like to see all tracks in eastern NC do well. I think it's possible with the right mix of leadership. Clary's and CLR will be kicking off their seasons soon. Dublin seems to be off to a much better start than what most people probably thought would happen. FMS is off to a great start, even working to get a couple shows in on Sunday due to the weather. HDS continues to grow.
Charlie I know you weren't intending to stir up controversy, but if I had to place a bet, that's exactly what will happen with this thread. It's unfortunate.

Thread moved to General Dirt, because I don't think it's fair to any track to compare another in their own forum. Continue in a civilized manner please.:evilB:

Not saying other promoters dont, but HDS owner/promotor Michael Weeks will stop and talk/listen to the fans and drivers. The action at Hammerdown is great and I have fun everytime i go there. $10 for grandstand and $20 for the pits. With the action you see at HDS thats a awesome deal. The track is small so they don't need a 24 car starting field. This is one track i would drive 2 hours to even if they only had 8-9 cars in every class.

i have been at hammerdown since they started running micros about 10 yrs. ago and have been an employee for two. our goal is not to compete with or take cars from anybody, all our goal is to give the drivers and fans another place to go. some people just dont go to another tracks (driver or fan) because they r faithful and others dont wanna go to the same track week in and week out so we r here to give them somewhere else to go and not have to drive alot of hours. on the purses and gate fee this is still a business and customer service is a businesses biggest friend. you will go were you feel you r treated the best and get the most. so that is why hammerdown is ran the way it is.

All tracks should feel the need to compete on some level. Competition or the desire to compete is not a bad thing. I agree on all the customer service and other things you said. But lets get real I want every car and fan that can be found to attend Clary's Speedway, no need to sugar coat it. Its called business and it takes fans and cars to make it in this business. So whats really wrong with wanting them at your track?

you are correct in some ways jh. but then again, too much competition could lead to tracks trying to out pay each other leading one of them to going broke. competition is good, but so is the tracks working together.

but so is the tracks working together............................damn is this a new line ????? dont think so .. dublin and hammerdown are working together and i hope you guys do well... i was down at hammerdown 2 week ago and it was a good driving track and we be back soon....good luck to all the dirt track in 08... my bet is cost of running a race team is going to hurt a lot of track in the long run... and most team are going where the money is or stay close to home...i know the cost of gas was over 300 dollars to go to dublin and hammerdown for us with 2 cars but i will do it again soon...

i understand that we r competing with all the sat. night tracks on some level. all i am saying is our goal as a racetrack is not to put any other track in any kind of bind or lose of cars and fans. technically we r competing not with each other but movie theaters, bars and the COUCH! cause a dirt track fan we be at some dirt track somewhere no matter what.

But when you are 20mins down the road, whether it's your goal to take cars and fans from FMS or not it will happen.

Wes, tracks are just as much a competitor as the racers them selfs. One track will do what it has to do to eliminate the other track particularly if they run on the same night, its just human nature. It's just like the series, World of Outlaws wants the Lucas Oil driver and the other way around and if and when that happens the winning organization can pay what they want and not what they have to pay now to keep their drivers loyal to the series. Why share the toys when You can all of them. I didn't say it was the right way, but it is the way it is. Just stop and look at how many small business are swallowed up and/or merged with a larger one, happens everyday.
