LAWNDALE, NC – The Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series is proud to announce the details of the 2008 Skyler Trull Memorial.
The eighth annual event will be at a new venue this season as the staff of Cleveland County Motorsports Park will welcome some of the best super late models in the country on May 2nd and 3rd.
Friday night’s portion of the weekend will be a $5,000 to win Carolina Clash Super Late Model event. The Skyler Trull Memorial will take the center stage on Saturday night where the winner of the 58 lap event will earn $10,000. Any driver that can win both main events will collect a $5,000 bonus making it a possible $20,000 weekend at Cleveland County Motorsports Park.
The annual event has quickly blossomed into one of the premier dirt late model races in the Southeast. This year the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series will oversee race day operations of the event and are working closely with the Skyler Trull Memorial Committee to honor this special young lady with the largest event to date in the eight year history of the race.
Skyler was a special little girl whose family is deeply involved in dirt racing. When Skyler lost her battle with Leukemia on March 14th, 2000 she was only 5 years old. Her family decided a memorial race in her honor would be a fitting tribute to the bright eyed redhead. The family went to work taking donations from fans and businesses to make the purse. The first STM was a $1,200 to win six car dash. Today the Skyler Trull Memorial is part of one of the largest dirt late model weekends in the South.
“We are very honored and proud to be associated with the Skyler Trull Memorial”, said Carolina Clash President Larry Lee. “The Trull family has worked very hard to preserve the spirit of Skyler throughout the racing community and we are just happy to assist in any way possible.”
This year’s event will once again pay a whopping $10,000 to win. Race fans will get to see plenty of action with qualifying and heat races to determine the starting field. The top six drivers will be locked into the feature through qualifying with the remainder of the field being set through a series of heat races. Provisional will be awarded to the highest ranked Carolina Clash driver that has not made the show and the highest finisher of last year’s STM who has yet to transfer. This will be an open tire race with Carolina Clash body rules in effect.
Jonathan Davenport is the defending race winner and his Beaver Bail Bonds team will be one of the favorites again this season. Others previous winners include; Ricky Weeks, Chris Madden, Rambo Franklin, Mike Duvall and Wesley Hood.
