The thunder of the Late Model cars was once again zooming around the 3/8 th mile clay oval of County Line Raceway in Elm City this past Saturday night June 18th . The cars of Spencer Liggons and James Batten had the best seats while starting from the front row, Spencer Liggons started from the inside with the fastest time of 16.40 seconds, and James Batten on the outside with a time of 16.61 seconds. When the green flag dropped the two tangled in the second turn with both spinning, and both having to drop back to the rear, on the restart it was single file and Bobby Bottoms of Elm City was leading the field of cars to the green . Bottoms who was last years points champion continued to dominate for the 35 lap event, and collected his first win in the Late Model division for the ‘05 season. Bithces Liles of Bailey circled the track lap after lap chasing the leader but had to settle for second. Lucama’s Spencer Liggons know to most as the “Viper” finished third. James Batten of Sharpsburg after two trips to the rear from spin outs came back for a forth place finish .Chad Braddy also another Lucama driver slipped to fifth after running second the first few laps .

Cogdell has had several close seconds this season, but this was his first ever win. Micheal Lamm from Battleboro and last weeks winner finished second. Bailey’s David Meyers was third followed by Jerry Williams of Snow Hill and Gary
Whitley of Stanstonsburg . Scott Taylor from Castalia made it a very exciting show as he “rode the wall” in the first and second turn, showing the fans how to do it on two wheels. Taylor pitted to change two flat tires and returned to finish seventh.
Ken Corbitt of Rocky Mount lead only the last four laps in yet another very exciting race in the 25 lap Thunder and Lightning division . A field of 18 racers put on a great race as they swapped positions over and over. Britches Liles, the pole sitter, led the first 21 laps untill he slipped with help in turns three and four leaving him with a third place finish . As Corbitt drove past Liles he brought the car of J P Cascell with him. Cascell as well as Corbitt had been on the back bumper of Liles throughout the race. Cascell continued trying to put his car out front but could not make it completely around the leader so he settled for second. Alan Worrell also of Elm City finished forth, followed by Wade Ferrell of Elm City in fifth. The sixth through tenth place finishers were : Lee Brinson, Jerry Baker, Chris Ray, Tim Coley, and Keith (Gumby) Skinner .
