I've been driving down Henry road just about everyday doing
some on work at the lake... Every now and then I have notice
dump trucks hauling out trees and dirt from from Log Cabin
Raceway driveway. I do know that the track has been up for
sale for a while. Just want to see if anyone heard anything new about the track? I posted here cause Satch owns Log Cabin
Raceway and has been working at Fork Mountain Raceway
perpared French Grimes race track all last year the track was
in it's best shape in years. I ain't gonna go down their and
trespass at Log Cabin raceway.

Can't wait to sling some dirt at Fork Mountain Raceway and other
tracks too...

Contact the Franklin News Post *540-483-5113 and talk to ol' Morris Stephenson...He used to work there and knows Satch pretty well, I'm sure he could tell you whats up.

It was a REALLY nice track, with a tunnel into the infield and very nice facilities. But, the stopped messing with it in the 1980's or so...From what I've seen, there's trees growing on the racing surface now...I kinda wonder if Satch isn't cleaning some of that up to help make the property a little more salable

Hey Jo,
I remember Jimmy Jessup, dude kicked our but a lot at the Cabin. First car I know of to stop using a swaybar on the front, and rumors were flying he was getting special tires stamped. Either way Jimmy was fast up high.
What about the Nascar drivers race when Tim Richmond drove Cardwell's Limited LM against all the other Nascar drivers driving LM's and kicked there tail?
And Donnie Moran winning the big $30,000 to win race with the open bodies and Larry Moore with wheel skirts. Combs was cutting down everyones left rear with his nose piece and Moran got him back. One heck of a track.

I went up and walked around the whole track a year ago. There is small pines growing in the track but that is really helping the track from washing away. It would not take a whole lot to get the track back running. The walls are still in great shape. The tower is pretty rough. Some trees fell across the outer fence. But for it not to be open since 1988 it is still in good shape. Tunnel would need some work.

I agree Hogg,
Remember when Booper(15yrs.old) ran his first race very well, hit our car in the left side and drove the frame rail all the way to the transmission, when R.L. Young was driving the 17 car for us. R.L. wasout for a while after that lick I was on top of the buss we hauled the car in and ran straight off the back of it going to the wreck. We were back the next week with Bobby Williams and the Barry Wright car we bought off Hall.

We were racing up there one night Gary in the car
they were mixing limited with late models we were
running the 311 inch motor turning about 8900 rpm
running good Gary went off down in the corner # 3
car caught fire (flash fire) I figured it blowed. he takes
off walking back to the pits .. gets there and hands
me a bolt he found on the track, when the car gets
there on the wecker we look it over to access the
damage to the engine, mmmmm it looks OK we see
what started the fire .... a bolt holding the bowl to
the carb came out.. THE BOLT I was holding in my hand.
the bolt went back in the carb, Gary back in the car,
the car back on the track, and I think a 8 th or 9th
place finish (oh what a night) amazing but true..
when it was all over Gary laughing says how about
checking those bolts every week. I agreed.

I remember the first race at Log Cabin. The track had holes in it after practice, they brought out the motor grader. We parked our car after the heat race, and during the feature cars were driving off down into huge craters, not holes.Everyone was raising their car up! Broken shocks, tie rods, and even a fuel cell knocked out.
The dirt had a high mica content and would not bond, it always moved or flaked off. They never got the surface right. the late Drake Shelton one said - " It' a beautiful place, they have everything but a track surface to race on".

Was told a few weeks ago, and hoping my source is correct, I think it is but the wednesday after the big snow, Evernham and Harvick was up at the track talking to Satch. Exactly about what can't say, but also heard they have met 2 more times. So let's see what happens if it is truth or false. Do know they were in town that day, was told by another person who is related to satch's family by marriage. Just have to take this stuff with a grain of salt until it is wrote in stone.

bigkid,we would bring the car in from pratice and throw a quilt over the right rear. we would stand and watch everyone in the pits swarm like honey bees.the next week we would put it on the left front.watching everyone every week was fun.the fact of the matter was 3/4 of the cars we were racing againest was gann cars,a few bopp's,and afew wright cars. we built our own cars and jimmy and ronnie jessup was such good drivers everbody swore we had to be cheating!
