BATESBURG, S. C. - A business opportunity arose recently and the deal was finalized this weekend. A lot of thought and consideration went into this decision. We feel that I need to spend more quality time with my children next year and mom (Ms. Carolyn) would like to spend more time with her aging parents and family. The grapevine talk has no justification in this business decision and is just that grapevine talk with no truth.
We have made the decision to lease I-20 Speedway for the 2006 season to Billy Hallman and Jack Starrette. We feel confident that these two will continue to run the track in the same fashion that my daddy did. Mr. Hallman was a very close friend of my fathers and knows what passion my dad had for the track. We feel that he will carry on a lot of my dad's traditions. Mr. Jack Starrette is an avid race fan and loyal supporter of I-20 speedway and wants to see it become the premier track for the southeast.
They are working hard to make improvements and are currently trying to get the rules established for the 2006 season. The only information that we can tell you is that they will be running the following classes next year: Super Late Model, Hobby, Super Street, Mini-Stock and Stock 4. Continue to watch the website for additional information. We hope that you will give them the same loyal support that you all have given our family through the years.
We have made the decision to hold an awards banquet around the first of November (this is pending the arrival of the jackets).
Last, but definitely not least,we would like to thank each of the track staff for all of their hard work through the years. We know that there have been many a late night, but all of you were always there. We can never thank you enough for always going to extra mile. We realize that without each of you at the track doing your job we would have not had the success that we have had.
