CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Tyler Hansbrough scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half of No. 1 North Carolina's 107-52 exhibition victory over Lenoir-Rhyne on Friday night.
Hansbrough also had 10 rebounds before sitting out the final 13 minutes with a jammed right thumb — an apparently minor injury that coach Roy Williams downplayed, saying "he's jammed that thumb about 44 times since he's been here."
Danny Green had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Tar Heels, who had 50 rebounds to Lenoir-Rhyne's 24, used an early 18-0 spurt to take command and made 40 of 51 free throws.
Wayne Ellington had 16 points, Ty Lawson added 14 and Deon Thompson had 13 for North Carolina, which opens its season Wednesday against Davidson in Charlotte.
Marcus Hodges had 10 points to lead Lenoir-Rhyne, a Division II program tucked in the central North Carolina mountains that's most famous for producing Texas coach Rick Barnes.
