Teen charged for football game flyover
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Authorities have charged a teenager with two misdemeanors for flying his small airplane over his school's football game.

Seventeen-year-old Brian Morris faces charges of dangerous flying and of dropping objects at a sporting event. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools suspended the Hopewell High School junior on Monday. He flew over the football game last Friday.

School officials say the teenage pilot flew the length of the football field three times and that a football dropped out of the plane into the end zone.

Authorities say two other people in the plane will not face charges.

A spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration says the agency may suspend or revoke Morris' pilot's certificate after an investigation. FAA records show the Cornelius teenager got his license in July.

Yeah, that was "t-shirt toss plan B". If the potato guns failed, they were going to drop the shirts out of a plane.

Become a Pilot-Student Pilot's Certificate Requirements

When do I need a student pilot’s certificate?
Before you can fly solo. You don’t need a student pilot’s certificate to take flying lessons.

Am I eligible for a student pilot’s certificate?
You are eligible if:
You are at least 16 years old. If you plan to pilot a glider or balloon, you must be at least 14 years old.
You can read, speak, and understand English
AND
You hold at least a current third-class medical certificate. If you plan to pilot a glider or balloon, you only have to certify that you have no medical defect that would make you unable to pilot a glider or balloon.

i am VERY surprised newb didn't correct all this mis-information!

the 3rd class medical IS the student certificate... with that, you can not fly without an instructor in the plane or you must be solo. no passengers!!!!

without knowing the details, looks to me like the problem was not that he flew over the game - he would have had to have violated airspace restrictions - such as flying too low or too near a crowd of people without a safe place to land if there was a problem or violating a noise ordiance.

also it is legal to drop some items from planes... check the F.A.R.

jh, there would NOT have been any problems with the flyover at the nationals - we just could not figure out how to be in more than one place at the same time.

we fly over county line all the time - - as a matter of fact, i use county line as my turning point to land on runway 4 at RWI -
next time wesley is in the flag stand....

wesley, NOBODY has a pilots license - figure that one out...
