We were there Saturday night when the older gentleman from the L2 stopped on the front straight, got out of his car, and hugged the little kids in the grandstand. Later he gets pelted with rocks (or something) by folks down in turn one. And NOTHING was done to any of them. Then, after he wins the feature, he can't even get to the scales for someone (a bunch of someones) trying to fight him. (He wasn't the cause of the 22 having a flat and having to go to the rear). So, he doesn't get to come to the front straight for an interview, and every time he gets near his hauler the "fightin' crowd" shows up again. He finally (with the help of the police) had to load up and leave.
I always thought the driver was responsible for himself and all his crew. If they had banned the 22 and everyone else involved for next year and escorted them off the track; that crap wouldn't be happening! We've been to CLR 3 times now and seen two fights. Why doesn't the management just sell tickets and put up a ring on the front straight. That **** doesn't do our sport the first iota of good and I, for one, really get pissed when a track doesn't take any action. they think more about the bottom line than the safety of the drivers AND fans.
We were by the flagstand and the track officials just stood there, watched, and laughed about the situation.
What a pity.

I agree with you 100% this has happened a couple of times and it is redicilous.. I dont care who you are even if you are my own family you need to be banned or penalized if you do something like that.. Why wasnt this taking serisously by the track some of the officials jumped in immediatly and i say thank you for that but why wasnt the 22 disqualified i would say that if i was on a team and we did stuff like that we should be disqualified and had a penalty to pay I would be embarassed for my sponsors and my self for wanting to cause trouble all the time. that is just my opinion.

well the thing i couldnt believe is why was the D22 sent to the rear when the race had not even started yet? shouldnt he have gotten his spotback. and if the L2 didnt cause the flat tire (not saying he did since i couldnt see it from where i was) then what did? or did it just go flat idk. but isnt that what the fighting was over? the stuff that happened before the race even started?

i dont know who you are talking about laughing and standing around about the situation. james was on the front stretch in the middle of the pure stock v8 cars and didnt see the fight. i however ran into the pits to help break them up. every other staff member that i saw was trying to break them up. im sry that you had a bad experience and i can tell you that more will be done in the future to make it more enjoyable for you.
gregg to answer your question. if you come to the grid and something happens to your car, you are sent to the rear. it has happened two weeks in a row now. glenn bottoms came out in ss4 last week and had a right rear flat. he had to go to the pits from the starting grid and had to start in the rear.

well thatnks for that info but why is it like that. i thought usually that before the race started you could retain your spot? or maybe at most tracks you can just not at CLR? but i didnt know so i was asking

thats our rule. if you come to the grid and go back to your pits, you cant have your position back. if we did that, then guys would come in the pits and we couldnt get the race started

i think that overall it was a very good and mostly calm night i had a great time. just hoping that episodes like what happened sat night will be delt with more seriously in the future to help keep scenes like this a thing of the past. the staff did a great job and i think as quickly as they could but lets make the penalty so high and so severe that people might think before they act..

My apoligies to you Mr. Cogdell. Evidentally you are the one person (official) we did see run to the pits; when things first started. However, there was an older gentleman in a red shirt on and 4 others standing under the flag stand on the track side of the fence. They did nothing to help and were standing there laughing and joking. I wasn't the only one to see them. They did NOT represtent the track very well.
I agree with the other comment(s). the penalty needs to be severe enough that folks will regret their actions. And the driver needs to be held accountable for his support crew.

The gentleman in the red shirt was the announcer, it is not his responsibility to handle anything in the pits. He was waiting to do the interview. He had no idea what was going on in the pits. The others did not work for the track, the were going to take pictures or something.

I was in the infield when it all started and I saw several *track officials* (meaning they had staff shirts on) run toward the altercation in an attempt to break it up. I even caught a shot with at least 2 officials right in the middle of it, risking their own safety in order to help.

I didn't see any track officials lounging around laughing at what was taking place.

I was 30 feet from it. I think all the track folks did all they could. But come now surely you didnt expect Steve Vail to run down there and break up a fight?:icon_badidea: LOL he's an annoucner, we aint no bouncers:Doh: Really just trying to add some humor. I dont think theres anyone to blame for what happen after it started. It was so many people that picking out whos at fault is almost impossible. But if the one who threw the first punch could be found and some action taken against them that would be the right step towards to the furture

I think that the crew from the track did a great job and the did it as quickly as they could.:05Cool: i would not have wanted to go and get into some one elses scuffle:smashfreakB: and it is messed up that the crew has to step in and put there saftey on the line like that anything could have happen just thank god it didnt get to bad. i wouldnt know how to handle it but i think that james and the track will probably look int this matter and come up with a logical solution. i say stiffer fines and penalties and be consistant and maybe some of this will go away..

This is not NASCAR it's Redneck Country racing LET IT GO. IT'S OVER. No one got hurt. NO guns, knifes, bricks, or bats just fist. I didn't know a fight would keep so many people up at night. To the ones that this bothers so much maybe you all need to to take up watching Golf or Line Dancing or Domino's or something that don't tear your nerves up. Please let it go and sleep well tonight.

maybe some people should take up racing when they go to a race track, otherwise leave the rest outside the gates.
