Yeah, most everyone that stayed is feeling it this morning. We were tryin to make it the entire night, but after they announced they were running 2 consi races, we split. Crazy to have the SS qaulify, run 4 Heats, 2 B mains, a consi, then a main in one day, and also run all the other classes. We all knew it was gonna be late, but this was crazy. Why would anyone in their right mind run the 4's, bombers, and Sportsman? They should have left them off or ran everything for them Friday. Maybe they'll learn from this and it'll run smooter next time.
Congrats to Jerry Jr. Thanks for running my decal, also to the Isles, Dickens and Kent for running it, glad it brought someone some luck.

I will have to admit that maybe that's just a maybe, the biggest mistake that was made was trying to be accommodating all of our regular divisions and have them be a part of this weekend.
But how do we tell Kelly Moore and the rest that we are not gonna let you race this weekend against the best and biggest field in sportsman we have had all year, after they have supported the track every week this year. Take a lot of the guys in the support divisions who showed up to race Saturday night, that due to family or work cant race on a Friday night, after all they have done every week just by showing up, we are supposed to tell all those guys sorry we don't want you or don't need you for the last and biggest race of the season? In my short time of being on the inside of this racing business I have come to find everything is a catch 22. You are dayumed if you do and dayumed if you don't. Yeah the show goes much quicker and shorter by either running all our regular class's on a Friday night, but that makes it impossible for some of them to attend or just leave em off the weekend schedule. Either way someone is not gonna be happy.
As for the SS consi races. WE only had 4 cars who decided to run them. So at first we offered to take the money and let them split the money. One of the four said they wanted to run. So we ran em. After the combined consi the same driver said they were scheduled to be in the second Consi and should get first place money. Well THEY got their money.
Let me tell you something about Nash Brick. If them guys say something or put some info out there, you can take it to the bank cause they are not gonna back away from their word!!! The SS cars were promised Consi races and that's what they got!!!
A little more info on how Nash Brick works and why I have so much respect for how they handle things. There was a $100 Longest tow award. Well going by the Info we could get from Mapquest it was a dead tie on who came the longest. Did they split that money between em? Nope called both cars to the front Stretch Gave both cars $100 and recognized both cars for there effort to make the tow. Also there was a hard charger award for the feature. Once again dead tie between Chew and Ricky Dickens. Did they split that money? Nope $50 to each!!!!
Brett I agree with a lot you said. Just trying to give you a little inside view of the factors that go into making the decisions. Was I happy with crawling into bed at 545am this morning? Hell No!!! But I tell ya it sure beats not having that race this weekend or having a lot of our regular drivers pissed cause they couldn't race this weekend. I will tell you now there will be a 2nd annual Brickyard Super Street Nationals and even though a ton of time and work was put into this years. A date will be picked a lot earlier next year. It will be a two day show. All class may run a split schedule or not at all. But everything will be planned a lot earlier next year. Can you imagine how big it could be with 6 months or longer worth of planning? Cause for all its faults last night it WAS A GREAT NIGHT and that was with just a little over a months planning!!!!!
Sometimes, less is better, and fewer divisions would have been better. I believe the crowd would have come just to see SLM and SS on this special night, and that is all there should have been.
Lots and lots of people were leaving before it was over, including us. It is a shame, but people had kids, etc., and needed to get home before 5:00 am on Sunday morning.
The idea was great - and I am sure that next year, if they decide to do this again, things will be much better and earlier!! There is a whole year to get things right!

I see where your coming from saying its hard to leave off the other classes, at the same time, the SS deserve to run in front of a packed house which showed, but due to the time it took to get everything else in, there may have been 55-60 people still left on the grandstand side. I felt th SS deserved more. PLus, if you've got 2 kids, does one get a present on the other's birthday? No, its thats kids day, the other will have his soon enough. I think they would have no problem being off on the Nationals night, especially if it isn't gonna be the last race. And your right, with more planning, I think it will run alot smoother and quicker next year. Also, need 2 wreckers I think, cuz the guy in the one there now, is a little lost. I don't know him, but hes not doing too hot of a job. Takes forever to get on the track, takes forever to get in position to hook up, then takes forever to get back off the track. The need a wrecker with the boom that comes off the back and goes under the car instead of the cable, alot safer and quicker. Last night he had a couple cars looking like yo yos coming in the pits and draggin the nose bad. But thats way off topic, just figure I'd throw it in. Maybe next year you could get hooked up with a garage, alot of asphalt track use outside wrecker services, in return they get in free, get a couple passes, and get some advertisment.

About 10%of the cars were only running a 8 gallon fuel cell. I know, I asked do they make em that small LOL. But that was why the stop.

Agreed. I don't care how many times I'm told, and who tells me, but you have got to have your main event completed by 11-12pm. What other sport on the PLANET runs this late at night other than specialized endurance sports? I can't think of one. I'm not just speaking about last night, I'm speaking about my experience with dirt track racing in general. To me it says one thing. The tracks depend more on the drivers than they do the fans. I'm not saying that in a bad way, it simply is what it is. Why else would a track even consider running more than 4 classes of cars on a single night? If you're putting on a good show and providing people with 4 hours of racing entertainment with 4 classes of cars, it's simple- you need the extra cars because of what they bring financially.
As much as I love the racing, I've had it with showing up for a race that's supposed to start at 7 on a Saturday and not getting out until approximately 2am on average. I'm not going to do it any more. It's probably a key reason why more folks don't show up.

my question:
in the drivers meeting charlie hanson said himself all the races were going to be 25 minutes or the number of laps you run period. why were the late models allowed to run over an hour worth of just caution laps? there wasnt hardly any racing going on. dont get me wrong, when they had green it was exciting. but that was few and far between.

Yeah, can't complain about the car count, Marcia Jh and the guys at NB really stepped it up getting not only the SS here but the top Super Lates. I just hate that we've been waiting for this weekend so long and we didn't even get to see the main race finish, nor the Sportsman or Bombers due to it being 3AM! Which is an all time record. Guy at church told dad he got home at 4:30 which we live about 30 minutes way give or take a minute, and he still didn't get to see bombers or sportsman. Its crazy, we all knew it was gonna be late, we had no problem with that when we though ok maybe 2am tops, but running at almost day break the next morning is crazy. A recent Speedway Illustrated atricle hit Clary's perfect. If I can find a link on the site I'll post it. Everyone needs to read it, its worth a few minutes of your time, trust me. All in all I had a blast til about 1am, and thanks to the Jone's for sharing the fire barrel. and the Micheal Wall and crew for letting us hog the heater in the pits, probly wouldn't have made it as long as we did without them. Thanks,

3am might be a record for this year, but one time last year it was about 3:45am ... and I was asked beforehand to stay that night to take every winner pic, including the slick track junkyard class. But that was a very unusual night and just getting it in before the sun came up :animal20: was quite an accomplishment.

Just to add my .02 in...There was one thing done that took WAY too much time....Trying to qualify the SS cars in the order they pulled a pill...Why not just let them go in the order they line up ?..Couldnt have been any harder, just look down the sheet and find the car # and write the times...I was trying to help Chris line them up and it was total chaos...Some of them were next in line and were trying to either get on the scales or get off the scales and get around to the track entrance...Question...Why were they weighing on the old scales if they had already crossed the "tech scales" BEFORE they ever qualified????...They had to come back across it ( Track Scales) after there 2 laps anyway. So if there was a weight issue it would have been caught there...And I know this for a fact...So I am not mistaken..It was a good night of racing, but just too much time wasted....

I hear what you're saying but I honestly don't think the behind-the-scenes chaos that you're describing led to much of an actual delay in qualifying. I was in the infield taking pictures of each car on their qualifying laps and they seemed to be coming out on the track right behind the previous car. So while it may have been a pain in the ass getting them lined up, I don't think it was visible to the fans.

yea we had to cross the scales every time we came off the track after a heat/consi race but for qualifying we only had to go across before. it would have probably made it easier if we would ahve just went across after qualifying so that is wouldnt have been so backed up but it all worked out......also thanks coop91 yea we had problems with the carb/fuel. it wouldny take the fuel so it was dead when i tried to get back in the gas which caused the whole field to pass me and i entually pulled off.
