ROANOKE RAPIDS - Chaloner Middle School's football team beat Brawley 7-6 in a home game Wednesday.

The Yellow Jackets scored six points on a 39-yard touchdown run by A.J. Alston with 5:46 left in the first quarter. Kicker Stephen Vassor then came on and made good on an extra point attempt that ultimately proved to be the difference in the game.

Brawley's only touchdown came on an 8-yard run in the second period, but Chaloner stopped an attempted two-point conversion run.

“Our defense made big plays all day to stop them,” Yellow Jacket head coach Freddy Frazier said. “This was a great team effort; this team has practiced hard and they are learning to focus and show discipline. This should give us momentum going into next week's game.”

Alston ran the ball eight times in the contest for a total of 107 yards. Quarterback Matt Hunsucker ran nine times for 43 yards and completed a pass to Alston for a 14-yard gain.
Alston also came up big on the other side of the ball, recording three solo tackles and four assists and also broke up two pass plays. Matt Wood also had three tackles and four assists for Chaloner, while Tyler Hunt had two tackles and five assists, J.J. Patterson had two tackles and three assists and Drew Bennett had two tackles, two assists and a fumble recovery.
