WILSON — Pitt County's scheduled matchup with in-state rival Johnston County in the 12U Babe Ruth Softball World Series was postponed when thunderstorms rumbled through the area on Thursday.
Johnston County will attempt to enact some revenge, having been defeated twice by Pitt in the state tournament several weeks ago.
Johnston defeated Concord, Calif.,
3-0 and Luzerne County, Pa., by the same score to reach the winner's bracket finals.
Pitt mowed through pool play with a perfect 4-0 record and outlasted Angola, Ind., 2-1, in its first tournament game to get to this point.
The local squads boast the top two pitching staffs in the World Series. Pitt County hurlers have recorded a paltry 1.03 ERA and allowed just five earned runs.
Johnston's statistics are nearly as impressive with a 1.36 ERA and nine earned runs allowed.
Pitt County's Tyndall Brock (0.00 ERA, 18 K, 3 BB), Katarina Hudson (0.55 ERA, 11 K, 3 BB) and Johnston's Tricia Reffrow (0.60 ERA, 14 K, 2 BB) are among the pitching leaders.
Pitt County leads the 10-team field in on-base percentage (.444) and stolen bases (16).
Brock is also second in batting average at .636 and Shannen Adams is third with a .500 average. Adams leads all batters in on-base percentage (.750), runs scored (9) and stolen bases (8).
The game between Pitt and Johnston Counties has been rescheduled for 4 p.m. today.
