I have been coming to 311 Speedway for as long as I can remember; as a kid then whenever I was home on leave from the US Navy and now pretty much every weekend. But last Saturday I went to Clary's Speedway for a change. Also I wanted to see the Supers run, of which Steve "The Hurricane" Blackburn won. I really enjoyed the show, all 7 classes. ALL classes had 9 or more cars.

The track did just like 311 does and break up as you enter the corners BUT it did NOT get dry and dusty. Also during the intermission they brought out the Moter Grader and made a valid attempt to elimate the ruts.

The classes moved along from practice to practice without all the calling for them to get on the track. Then when the heats started again everything ran along nicely. A few cautions in all classes but overall all the races ran along very well.

They had a ATV to push the cars off the track if they were able to roll but not run. They only called out the wrecker when they had to haul off a car. Even with "1" wrecker they were faster at getting the cars off the track than at 311 (almost like they were in the truck waiting to go out).

Lastly there were "2" people on the flag stand to watch the entire track. Don't get me wrong I think Greg Watson is doing a FINE job flagging but he can only watch half the track at a time. Also the yellow didn't fly everytime some one spun unless they were blocking the track. The driver was given the time to try and get going before the yellow was thrown.

I believe if Bobby Johns is somehow going to keep the track then he needs to go to other tracks and see how they run things. From how they water and roll in the track to how they run the overall show. With this knowledge he can run the track better.

Thanks for the comments. Just one small clarifaction. My Son and myself had a friendly argument over Steve's "nickname" so when Steve won his first race at Clary's this year, in the winners interview I asked him Steve over the years I have heard you called " Superman" Steve Blackburn and most recently "The Hurricane" Steve Blackburn. Which is it? Steve's quote after he stopped laughing was "Well I guess I am a Super Hurricane!! Hence his new nickname at Clary's Steve "The Super Hurricane" Blackburn!!!

I think it was one helluva nice gesture for him to give the $100.00 pole bonus to the family (who I doubt he knows from Adam) we had a fundraiser for last night.

He also presented the sponsor of the pole award http://www.easternhydraulic.com/ with a diecast of his car!!!

I know a lot of people may not care for Steve. But let me say this on behalf of the fans, the staff and other competitors at Clary's Speedway: You don't want him, that's great cause we would love to have him every Saturday night.

he had every intention of making it back by the 28th, but due to the late arrival of the pistions, he did not have enough time to get the engine together and make it for Saturday's race so Ray will be making his return on the 4th......

in response to "the HOGG 19" - I agree with you whole heartly when you said how can you hate someone when you haven't even met them. Personally I have met Steve, my dad used to help crew for him when he ran Modified 4. I also know his dad (Steve), a few members of his crew and have met Mr. Lovelace his sponsor.
I believe most people don't like him cause he has at one time IN THEIR EYES cheated to win out over their favorite driver. I have watched my fair share of races and have seen many times when drivers do things that could be considered as cheating just to win but I don't hate them. I just hate the way they drive. I've also found myself at one time or the other actually rooting for them.

LOL....Does this mean that I have to start calling him "Super Hurricane". Does anyone know why I started calling him "The Hurricane" ? Actually the crew asked me to.

Sorry CHEEZYRIDER but I am a little slow at getting hints sometimes (just ask my wife). I didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea I enjoy coming to 311 every week. In fact I don't think I have missed over 3 races this season (except for the Friday night race and that one on Wednesday early in the season (had to work). But from a fans point of view there are things that could be done better overall. Not just a every once in a while but EVERY week kinda of things.
