From The Bureau County Republican:
Originally Jeff Sietz was talked into starting his racing career by Heartland Auto Body and fellow race car driver Dave Roggy, but it’s a decision that Seitz will remember for the rest of his life.
First off, Seitz won the first ever series point championship in the Hornet Division having driven the car sponsored by Heartland Auto Body and his friend Roggy.
“It was pretty cool to come in and win that championship in the first year,” Seitz said. “Dave kind of talked me into it, but it’s just been a tremendous experience ever since.”
The Success for Seitz didn’t stop there though as he picked up a second place finish in his second season and then came back and won the series title again his third season at the Bureau County Speedway.
“To win in once was pretty nice,” Seitz said. “To come back with a second and another championship in my third season was pretty incredible to say the least. I’m always joking around saying that I’m always chasing Dave (Roggy) around the track, but I have had some success also I guess.”
This season Seitz is enjoying another fine season, but like everyone else in the Hornet Division they are chasing Roggy for the points title.
The two championships are not the highlight of his five year racing career though as fans saw on opening night of the 2007 racing season.
“I better say this is my most memorable moment or I’ll get in trouble,” Seitz said laughing. “At the first race of the year I proposed to my girlfriend at the time who said yes and is now my fiancé. I painted will you marry me on the side of my car and she was pretty surprised. I met her at the track so I thought it was only fitting that I asked her at the same race track.”
That same night also turned out to be a memorable night for more than getting engaged to his fiancé as he went on to win the Hornet feature race the same night.
“Yeah I don’t know if Lady Luck was on my side or what, but I got engaged that night and then went on to win the feature race, so there was a lot to celebrate that night,” Seitz said.
Sietz had a much better start to the season than how his 2006 season ended. That was an ending that he would much rather forget about.
“A night to forget would be accurate,” Seitz said. “One of the back wheels fell off my race car and I ended up flipping end over end. Some say that I rolled over five times or so before I stopped. That was definitely a memorable night though as well.”
Seitz has enjoyed racing at various tracks over the state, but says his favorite is right here in Princeton at the Bureau County Speedway. When away from driving his race car, he spends some free time watching his favorite driver Carl Edwards in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series.
“I just started following Edwards when he got into the 99 car and watched him ever since,” Seitz said. “He’s a pretty level headed guy and I just like watching him race.”
