FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series ready for $5,000 to-win National Event WEDNESDAY at MERCER as cars expected from all over Northeast, Midwest, & South; Richest event ever at Mercer!

By Mike Leone

July 2, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mercer, PA…The inaugural FASTRAK Northeast Late Model Touring Series is set to make it’s maiden voyage to Mercer Raceway Park for a special Fourth of July holiday show this Wednesday night. The “Yankee 40” will highlight “Saluting the Red, White, & Blue,” which will also include the T3 All-Star Modified Series, and the Star’s Championship Mod Lite Tour making it the richest event in the 56-year history of the speedway. It’s the first time ever these three sanctioning bodies have competed on the same night. Racing begins at 6 p.m.

The “Yankee 40” will be event number six on the Northeast Touring Series slate and the season’s most lucrative event with $5,000 going to the winner and $250 to take the green. Drivers will draw pills to determine the heat race lineups and redraw for the first 12 starting spots of the feature. There is a $100 entry fee. The Goodyear G45 or G50 tires are mandatory. They will be available at the track for $125 each or by calling BWR Performance at 330-509-1999.

“I’m thrilled to be hosting this National event and crown jewel of our Northeast Touring Series at Mercer,” explained Northeast co-Director and Mercer owner Vicki Emig. “This event came about in Atlanta back in January at the Regional Directors meeting. It’ll be an honor to have FASTRAK founder Stan Lester at our event as well as the National Tech Director Rick Ellison. I have to thank Scott Myers who got the entire FASTRAK ball rolling here in the Northeast as none of this would be possible without his efforts. He and his brother Chad both will be competing.”

A strong field of cars is expected as this National event is expected to draw in talent from the south and Midwest to go along with the Northeast’s best led by two-time Raceway 7 Touring winner Dick Barton, Lakeville Speedway Touring winner Alan Dellinger, McKean County and Eriez Speedway Touring winner John Lacki, plus top runner Todd Andrews. Other popular drivers expected to participate include Rodney Phillips, Mark Osburn, John Watson, Steve Hollabaugh, Jay Watson, Dave Norton, Jr., Mike Wonderling, Jr., Bump Hedman, Jon Law, Dave Padula, Tom Kemp, E-Mod standouts Carl McKinney, Greg Oakes, and Larry Kugel, former Sprint Car driver Kyle Drum, Stock Car greats Tommy Snyder, Jr. and Mike Pegher, Jr., and many others from Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Dellinger, who won his first FASTRAK weekly-sanctioned event last Friday night at Raceway 7, has to be considered one of the favorites. The Niles, Ohio native who now calls nearby Hermitage, Pa. home has 38 career wins at Mercer despite not competing weekly at the track in many years. He’s the track’s all-time Stock Car winner with 30 victories, all-time E-Mod winner with 4, and owns a pair of victories in both the Super Late Model and Big-Block Modified divisions. He’s the only driver to win in those four classes and a victory on Wednesday would make him become the track’s first driver in the track’s history to win in five different classes.

“We’ve gotten calls from drivers from Indiana as well as confirmation from racers down South that are planning on making the trip,” stated Northeast Co-Director Mike Leone. “Hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate. The racing thus far on the Touring Series has been simply phenomenal with two and three-wide racing all through the field. Many fans have said it’s the best racing they’ve seen in a long time and a lot of our racers have said it’s the most fun they’ve ever had racing! Mercer’s track is always conducive to great racing so fans are going to be in for a real treat”

National top runner Shannon Buckingham, who just won $5,000 in the National FASTRAK event on Saturday in Bulls Gap, Tennessee was planning on making the trip, but a funeral may curtail his plans. Other top southern runners making the trip include David McCoy, Scott Morgan, and Lee Cooper.
Pits will open at 2:30 p.m., while tickets will go on sale in the grandstands at 3:30 p.m. Hot laps are slated for 5:15 p.m. with the first green flag at 6 p.m. Adult admission is just $15, students 6-15 are $7. Children five and under are free. The family pass is $35. Pit passes are $30. A reminder that you must be 14 years of age to enter the pit area and those 14-17 must have their parent or legal guardian with them.
