ok i have a 1979 camaro that i am gonna turn into a hobby stock or superstreet, but i dont know which yet.
the rear frame rails are rusted out bad enough that i will have to do something about it before it will be safe to race. what would be my best way to fix it? and about how much would it cost?
i would like to just get the car tubed from the front sub-frame back if possible. is that able to be done? and if so how much?
thanks for all yalls help,

Honestly you come out better and cheaper to find you a good roller (a chassis already built) if your starting from scratch. You talking about a rusted frame your in bad shape already......and to take your car to someone make it a tube chassis and a decent safe race car you lookin at some money.......you can find pretty good already built cars less motor / tran for less than you gonna spend.......check the for sale adds then call Phil Gann (race car builder) and you'll see what I mean. Just make sure you know what to look for you dont want someones POS.............

so camlobe, i am also getting another 1979 camaro that i have been told the frame and all is good on, do you think subframe connectors would help the car handle once i get it ready or should i just leave it like it is and throw some race shocks, motor, and tranny under it and go racin? oh and what rear end should i use? ford 9 in.? or just stick with stock? it is not posi.

Definitely build the non-rusted car and use the rusted car for parts, if you can’t find a decent existing race car. But make sure you get some help because your roll bars and support bars need to be done right or the car won’t be competitive or safe. Take a look at some of the cars that are running good at the track (if their owners will let you). Our #69 car is exactly what you describe, and I think Mike wouldn’t mind if I showed it to you. Leave your tape measure at home, but you can get the gist of it.
We haven’t tried sub-frame connectors yet, but are thinking about it. There are some clearance problems underneath, so it’ll take some head scratching. The unibody flexes more than a tube frame, so getting it to go through the turns as well as a tube car is tough. With the rules as wide open as they are right now, we really think that you need a tube car in Super Street. The unibody may still be good enough in Hobby, if they keep the horsepower down in that class.
You’ll need race shocks, but can get away with a stock tranny and rear end. However, there are cars in Super Street already with racing transmissions and quick change rear ends. A 9” Ford rear end with disc brakes is good, but so far (honestly) we’re able to get away with a stock Chevy tranny and rear end.

Thats right I agree with 69 there.....but if your starting out I'd run hobbie. And you will wanna tie the frames together w/sub connectors or like mine is tied up w/ the rollcage frame to frame. You get hit hard enough with the unibody not tied together that camaro will look like a horeshoe plus it stiffens the car up. Take a look at the 69 and mine if ya wanna they got the same thing I do. 3 speed saginaw w/ 12 rear. But you wanna posi, you can put a spool in the chevy rear and make it posi....you got a 10 or 12 bolt? You gonna need a gear to.

Oh like 69 said racing shocks a must......dont bother with autozone shocks they wont last 1 race......

it is a 10 bolt and i have to convert it to a stick shift kause it is a auto right now. i have seen mikes car many a time! i was helping yall out a few weeks...this is the kid that wanted to buy the car. but i got me a few 79's so i figure ill just put them togeather and make a race car that way ill know the car in and out. a racing motor is another story though i need to see if i can just build my stock motor up kause i deff. dont have the money to go and buy a race motor.
