June 16th is going to be another exciting night at Fork Mountain Raceway.
The Virginia Sprint Series V-8 alcohol injected wing cars will be returning with a full 19-20 car field. Also, there will be a no rules race for the Pure Stock division, and the Super Streets can run in this race if they run Pure Stock tires and a 2 barrel carb. Other divisions that are scheduled to run are the FMR mini-sprints, crate late models,mini-stock, and the u-cars.
Should be a fun and interesting night with plenty of action.
Anyone purchasing a ticket will receive a free Legends Nascar T-Shirt. You don't want to miss out !! See everyone there..

mafia racing... please give it a rest Mr.Grimes trying his best to have super street and pure stock together see what happens if it works or not. Also need get some car out there to support the track. I had both of my Mini Stock cars teched and pass. So I did my part to support the track with car count in that class. If you got a car get it up there show your support. If you not supporting then don't bash the man for trying.

You guys need to get on the phone with jeff young and let him know the track is there, and we had mike young bring his late model out and run with the crates and mark crowe ran with the crates that night and it was one heck of a good show. So, if you are sittin back complaining of no place to race, then it's nobody's fault but your own..Bring on the cars we'll run them somewhere !!!

We went down to 311 last saturday night test to see if we fixed the wiring from igniter to distributor and finished 3rd, but still has a skip i need to fix. I talked to French Grimes and he has a machine that will test wiring and stuff to se where I am having problems at with the car.

SS has to run 8" wheels and a 2 barrel carb.............so it's really not "no rules"

Hey Bigkid, it's a no rules Pure Stock race that we are letting the Super Streets run in if they want to. It is a no rules race for their class, but I guess you needed to come up with some excuse not to support the track, huh?:icon_rock:

Fireball my understanding is that the SS cars have to run 8" wheels and a 2 barrel Carb. that will make my gear way too low even if I had the wheels and tires and Carb. A guy from down here called French and ask him what we had to do to run that race. But thanks for the smart remark.

fireball
06-08-2007, 10:21 PM
Wasn't meant to be a smart remark, but it's like there is always an excuse with you and here again we here it's your gearing now. Where do you plan to run this car? Maybe you'd be better off just letting it set until you decide where you are running so you don't have to change the entire car to run one race, that would be your cheapest route don't you think? I mean you don't even like the track or the owner so what's the point of doing all this to race at a track you can't stand?

bigkid
06-08-2007, 11:57 PM
Fireball,

I've run that track from 1993 until 2004, I had an asphalt car last year because I didn't know OLR was going to reopen in time to fix a dirtcar. But for 2007 I was fixing a dirtcar to run Fork Mountain and I went to 4 meetings about rules driving a hour each way everytime, plus went to the track 3 times to talk to French. How many laps do you have around the place? It's not up to you to determine when and where I race, and if my car isn built for one set of rules, it's not very easy to change to another set of rules. It's not as easy as changing tires. Maybe you need to worry about yourself, instead of what I'm doing, that has to be tough on you.

What's tough on me is all these drivers complaining about how they have been treated in the past, but when a man (French) sees the potential in a track enough to buy the place to give drivers a place to race at he gets critisized day in and day out. It's nothing personal against you bigkid, and you aren't the only one who wants to TEST their car at FMR till RTR opens, but it would be nice if French had the same kinda treatment given to him as the drivers want given to them, and not keep talking about the way things used to be, cause if things were to stay the way they used to be the track would only fail again. Let's all look at the positives for the track, and do our part to make the call or the drive and check out the place.

Fireball what's wrong with wanting to come and try out your car at FMR. A car is a car and that's money to the pits track etc. I started racing on that track and it used to be my home track but when a track is opening 13 miles from your house and you are 50 miles away you do the math. I'm sure not making any money pulling all the way up there but I thought it would be nice to come run when I would like every now and then. Just because you are not a regular don't hold it against them because it might come a day when you would be glad if he is a regular. And what Bigkid was talking about the gears is this, you have your car geared as low as you can with big tires if you put on small tires guess what it makes you even lower. That makes you tach even higher and boom there goes your engine. So Fireball you have alot of interest in the track so let us know who you are so we can put a face with this argument. Everyone around here know's who I am and Bigkid also.

Fireball,
Do a little bit of research, one of my cars was built for Fork Mountain rules. It couldn't run at the other track even if I wanted to run there. So no it wouldn't be a test session, I was going to race solely at French's track, that was my plan from since last year. One of the biggest problems FM has now is all these people like yourself getting on here and ragging racers like myself because you act like we owe it to you and French to race there. A little tip for you, it takes more to run a race track than just having one, or having a friend that has one. As some of you will learn, you try to pressure us ole rednecks around here, and we'll buck on ya. If we bring 18 to 20 SS racecars up to the track will we get the same purse as the 305 sprints?

does anyone know if there is a tire rule for the crate lates or any rules for the class?

Poorboy44

Most crates run under fastrack sanction rules that will get you in the ball park and if you want to run other tracks those rules will most likely be what you want.

Ok, a word from an "outsider". I have been involved in this sport since I was way too young to remember. I have been exposed to most every form of dirt track racing there is. Iam currently a crew member on a "305" sprint. I contribute my time, my sweat, and my money to be involved in the sport I love. I even get to drive on occassion. I am very aware of the costs, and efforts it takes everyday of the week to have the car ready to go on race night... Please don't sit there, and tell me week after week that "I can't race, because..." The fact is you can't race because you don't want to race. That's your choice. It really doesn't matter that you own a car that sits in the garage. If you ain't out there racing, or making every effort to try to get out there to race you really ain't a racer. Stop wasteing time with excuses, and fighting with a promoter that has your interests as a racer in mind. Get off your ass get your car ready to race where ever you want, but go racing, and stop all the bitching!

This is in no way a bash to French or any other promoter.

You pay good money, you get good cars. You get good cars, you get alot of fans. You get alot of fans, you make good money.

It really is that simple. I know because I have done some promoting. It does take a couple of bad weeks to get the word, but once you do it gets alot better.

Take I-77 in Chester, SC. They have one of the best weekly purses in the southeast. The first couple of weeks they had about 150 people in the stands and between 40 and 50 cars. Last week they had over 400 people and 80 some cars.

How far do you SS guys travel?
Well Lightspeed, I guess the SS group is either still calculating their mileage, or just don't want to compare apples to oranges. The "fact" that the VSS group is willing to travel statewide, and into NC on a weekly bases shows the difference between the two. No, it's not because of the $$$. If the SS boys had to pay the expenses for travel, and up keep on a sprint car, and run for what VSS runs for... They would quit their bitching real fast. Believe me, I know personally. Racing costs big bucks! In all divisions. A local track is a real blessing, and apparently one that some take for granted. If you want to make money go back to school, and get an education, or get another (2nd or 3rd) job. If you want to race, and have fun, and provide a night of entertainment for the family, support your local track... GOD BLESS AMERICA, AND DIRT TRACK RACING!:american:

I agree with you there. I think we all would, but one night a week is all we can afford, and that is getting tougher with gas prices. Like most folks we race on a shoestring budget, and that shoestring is getting worn thin. But we do what we can to make the weekly shows.

We will be there also... Should be interesting to see the "no rules race". Sounds like it could be fun, and may even get to see guys out there that really just want to race! Maybe a "new" class of cars? Interesting...

I've been down under in new zealand running the big cars! I would bet a piece of horse manure against a lemon, and hold these bets in my mouth, that you don't see more than 15-16 Sprintcars at Fork Tougue Mountain this weekend.. Just let them run with the fender boys for some variety. spot the fender boys a few laps,,, away you go,,,,,

Last race there were 19 VSS Sprints there and one great show! Also there was 15 of the mini-sprints. the no rules race should be a good one as well, unless all of the pure stock and super street cars are afraid of being shamed by some of the sealed engine cars. Wouldn't that just suck? Well, hope to see everyone there this Saturday, and I know it will be a good show.. For all the drivers who are waiting on this track to start running on friday nights again, you mite want to wait on RTR, otherwise I don't think you'll be running anywhere this season..http://localracechat.com/forums/gfx_BnG/icons/icon3.gif
