FASTRAK postpones several Late Model Touring Events due to unavailability of Goodyear Tires

May 3, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Carnesville, GA)…The FASTRAK Racing Series has regretfully been forced to postpone several Late Model Touring events due to the inability of the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company to produce enough tires.
Postponed are McKean County Raceway’s May 5 Northeast Region event (It will run as a open
show, but not a sanctioned event), Modoc Speedway’s May 14 Southern/Mid-East Region event, and I-20 Speedway’s May 15 Southern/Mid-East Region event.
Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia is still a go in the $2,000 to win ($2,500 bonus on the line) Mid-East Touring event. This is the last Mid-East Touring event until further notice. FASTRAK intends to be back under way for the May 25th Lowe’s Motor Speedway "Goodyear All Star Challenge"
"I keep trying to look on the bright side of things," stated Director Jody Palmer. "FASTRAK has grown tremendously. Membership has more than doubled this year, weekly sanctioned tracks have increased 39%. It’s all going very, very well but we never considered outgrowing the ability of Goodyear to manufacture tires. I think it was a big surprise to everyone including Goodyear. I was in the office this morning and after speaking with Stan (Lester) I learned that we had sold more tires in the first 43 days of this year than in the previous three years combined. That in itself speaks pretty highly of the success of the FASTRAK program".
"Postponing Touring events is something we certainly don't prefer to do," stated Series Founder Stan Lester. "There is no benefit in that to FASTRAK, but at some point the Series has to step in and say when it is and isn't fair to each and every competitor. Right now some teams have the G45 compound, while others don't. That's just something we can't allow to happen. As the CEO of the Series, I would rather lose the income than to be unfair to every competitor. Most of the FASTRAK employees have worked day and night for the last five weeks trying to solve this issue but the orders for tires just kept coming and Goodyear just couldn't keep pace. I appreciate all of the tracks being willing to work with us. Our teams, tracks and fans have been great through all of this. We should be back on track in a couple of weeks and the Touring guys can go racing once again".
Modoc Speedway’s Tony Friar was quoted as saying, "I really appreciate the staff of FASTRAK working with us. I know these guys have worked hard trying to solve this. They have been on the phone day and night but who would have ever guessed they just couldn't make tires fast enough? I talked to the Goodyear Rep for the Eastern United States and like he said, they just could not believe the growth. I know for Modoc Speedway the FASTRAK Late Model program has proven very successful for us and provided some fantastic racing every Friday night. I hate we had to postpone the event but we are looking for a future date that will work for us and I-20 Speedway both and that announcement will come very soon".
Ken Leet of McKean County Raceway stated, "I have talked with Stan until 11:00 at night on some occasions. I know they have done everything they could to solve this, but sometimes things just can't be helped. I want to stress that FASTRAK has no fault in this as I have personally talked to Goodyear Corporate headquarters and they are just simply behind. I truly look forward to our continuing relationship with FASTRAK and I still believe it’s the single strongest program in the country".
Both I-20 Speedway and Modoc Speedways are tentatively working on a plan where larger purses will be paid the same nights as the original FASTRAK Touring Events were scheduled. The FASTRAK Series has agreed to put up sponsorship to help both tracks. "We want to see our teams have some fun," said Weekly Director Terry Harris. "We don't want to disappoint our fans either so we agreed to step up and support the tracks to do larger purses each night. We are serious about supporting our tracks and our teams. This is only a small portion of what we do to support them. One good thing out of all of this is our Touring teams can go and support the local tracks for the next couple of weeks. We always try to see a positive when something like this occurs and local tracks should be packed with cars".
The Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company is making changes in production facilities to prevent this in the future.
The FASTRAK Late Model Racing Series boasts 11 Regions throughout the continental United States with some 50 weekly-sanctioned speedways. A point fund of $350,000 will be paid in 2007 with weekly-sanctioned Goodyear track champions earning $1,000, Touring champions in each of the 11 regions receiving $5,000, and $50,000 to the National Champion.
Partners of the FASTRAK Racing Series Include: Goodyear Racing, GM Performance Parts, Maypole Chevrolet, Duralite Wheels, PPM Racing Products, Heintz Performance, MK-Direct, Braswell Carburetion, Mastersbilt Racing Chassis, TNT Racing Chassis, Rocket Racing Chassis, Modern Chevrolet and Schoenfeld Headers.
