Mark Pettyjohn competes with Lucas Oil Series
By: T. J. Layne

MILTON, DE-After a rainout on Friday night at the New Egypt Speedway, Mark Pettyjohn and the Pettyjohn Racing Team invaded the Hagerstown Speedway in Hagerstown, Maryland for the “26th Annual Stanley Schetrompf Memorial” sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. This was the first time Mark has competed with the Lucas Oil Series this season and is also the first time he has competed in a night race at the legendary half mile.

With a long rain delay and a midnight curfew, Lucas Oil Series officials made the decision to start the races by pill draw and use a passing points format. Unfortunately, Mark drew an eight-six so he was forced to start in the rear of his heat. The car worked well in the heat though as Mark was able to pass three cars and finish sixth in the Hawk Brake first heat race. That would force Mark to run in the Penske Shocks second B-Main where he would start sixth. Mark would finish sixth in the race, coming three spots short of transferring into the $10,000 to win feature event.

“We definitely did not have the kind of night we had hoped for, but we did gain valuable experience which will help us in the future at Hagerstown for remaining special event, night-time shows this season”, said Mark. “Its kind of a downer that we didn't make the race, but its times like that when I just have to take a step back and be thankful that nobody got hurt, we brought the car back in one piece, and we gained valuable experience which will hopefully help us in the future.”

This week Mark will continue his 2007 tour on Friday night, May 4th for a regular show at the Georgetown Speedway in Georgetown, Delaware. Georgetown has always been a great track for Mark as he looks to improve on his second place finish on April 20th and claim his first feature win of the 2007 season. Mark Pettyjohn would also like to thank all of his sponsors which include Melvin L. Joseph Construction, Hitchens Brothers Trucking, Rogers Sign Company, Swartz Race Cars, and eAction Photos.
