ROBERTS TOPS 42 FASTRAK LATE MODELS IN SOUTHERN/MID-EAST TOURING EVENT AT VOLUNTEER SPEEDWAY SUNDAY
By Mike Leone

April 29, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Bulls Gap, TN)…The FASTRAK Racing Series’ Southern and Mid-East Touring Series convened at the Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee on Sunday for their third combination event of the season.

Shane Roberts emerged victorious for the first time of the season coming out on top of the season-high 42-car field at what’s billed as “the world’s fastest dirt track” in the 50-lap feature $2,000 to-win feature.

Jensen Ford won his first ever pole position, but through the "fans in the stands" six-car invert, John King was awarded the inside pole from his fifth place qualifying spot with Roberts moving from fourth to the outside of the front row.

The initial start of the 50-lap FASTRAK Late Model main event proved unfavorable for local hero Dale Ball as he unfortunately had to come to the pits for repairs. That relegated him to the rear of the field as the event got underway.

Ford and King both recorded their best lifetime finishes in third and fourth respectively. Bobby Mays earned the "hard charger" as he came from 22nd to finish in fifth. Chris Ferguson started fourth in his heat, slipped to fifth before going as low as possible making his own groove on the track and came back with an incredible run to win the heat and earning him a eighth place finish in the feature. Former NASCAR star Shane Hmiel broke a ball joint on lap 22 bringing his day to an end. Lee Cooper took a provisional starting position after having problems in the consi and came from last place to a 19th finishing position with no front end period. Cooper did gain some valuable points toward both the Regional and National Championships.

The event went caution-free from lap six to the checkered making it 44 laps of some of the best racing ever witnessed. Passing was incredible throughout the field with three and four wide racing going on every turn of every lap. Fans were quoted afterwards as saying it was "one of the best Late Model shows they had ever seen".

The Bulls Gap event can be viewed Tuesday on RaceTrackTv.net via pay per view for only $2.99. DVD's for the event may also be ordered through the same site.
