ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Law-enforcement agencies are searching for a suspect who shot a Rocky Mount police officer Friday afternoon, police said.
Police said the officer was shot at about 3 p.m. at the Cross Creek Mobile Home Park, which is located off of Instrument Drive, in northern Rocky Mount.
All Rocky Mount police officers are on the scene searching for the shooting suspect, who has a handgun, authorities said.
Police described the suspect only as a male seen running from the mobile park home.
The Nash County Sheriff's Office also is helping in the search, and the N.C. Highway Patrol is handling traffic issues.
Authorities said the police officer who was shot was airlifted to Pitt Memorial Hospital. The officer's condition has not been released.
