FASTRAK RACING SERIES names MIKE LEONE as NATIONAL DIRECTOR of PUBLIC RELATIONS
By Mike Leone
January 23, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Carnesville, GA)…FASTRAK Racing Series founder Stan Lester has announced that Mike Leone has been named as the National Director of Public Relations for the Series. Leone will also serve as Northeast Region Co-Director along with Vicki Emig, which will debut this spring.
Leone, 28, is a 2000 graduate of Grove City College and has been around racing his entire life. At just 16 years of age in 1994 when Mercer Raceway Park reopened, he became the Director of Public Relations at the western Pennsylvania dirt track where he’s been there every day since also serves as Race Director and Webmaster. Leone has worked at Sharon, Sportsman’s, and Expo Speedways in western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio as well. Since 1995, he’s wrote columns for the Allied News, Sharon Herald, and Motorsports World.
“I’m thrilled to have Mike on board with us at FASTRAK,” stated Lester from his corporate office in Carnesville, Georgia. “Though I’ve only known him for two months and have only met him three times in person, I’ve been very impressed with his writing skills and knowledge of motorsports. We’re growing so fast nationwide that I just can’t properly do the job at the level and attention it needs. He’ll relieve me of those duties so I can focus more time on continuing to grow FASTRAK and work on a daily basis with drivers, sponsors, and speedways.”
“I’ve always said everything happens for a reason,” expressed Leone. “Sometimes God presents opportunities in strange ways in our lives. When I went to The Dirt Track @ Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte in early November and saw the FASTRAK Late Models for the first time, little did I know a couple months later I’d be a Co-Director of the Northeast Region and now the National Director of Public Relations.”
Leone further explained, “I went down to watch the Sprint Cars, but easily came back very impressed by the FASTRAK Late Models as it was some of the best racing I’ve seen in recent memory. Nearly 60 cars were on hand for a $2,000 to-win race. The top five cars raced two and three-wide the entire race, there was racing all through the pack in the competitive field, only one car was lapped which didn’t happen until turn three on the last lap, and there were just three cautions. Back at home, local racer Scott Myers put together an informational meeting, and being just a couple miles down the road, Vicki and I attended. We were both impressed with Stan’s presentation and what FASTRAK offers. A couple phone calls and a trip to Cherokee Speedway in South Carolina, Vicki and I came back as Co-Directors.”
“I have always enjoyed writing,” stated Leone. “If it wasn’t for the missing void of press at Mercer Raceway Park back in 1994 and the lack of coverage in our local newspapers, I may have never been involved in this aspect of motorsports. Stan has impressed me from day one and his vision and work ethic for the Series is what spurred my interest in FASTRAK. We all know racing has become so costly from everyone’s vantage point. Something needs done and Stan has taken the initiative and this Series is growing at a phenomenal rate.”
FASTRAK started in 2004 with just five Late Model race cars. The 2007 season will feature 11 regions from coast to coast of the continental United States. FASTRAK Racing will pay each champion at a Goodyear weekly-sanctioned track $1,000; each of the 11 regions will pay a minimum of $5,000 to its champions on the 15-race tours; and the Late Model Series National Champion will earn $50,000 amongst a point fund worth nearly $350,000. An economy Modified division is underway and an affordable Winged Sprint Car division is in the development stages.
