FASTRAK WINTER NATIONALS to pay $5,000 TO-WIN at Georgia’s OGLETHORPE SPEEDWAY PARK Feb 22-24
January 23, 2007 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Carnesville, GA)…The FASTRAK Racing Series returns to one of the most beautiful racing facilities in the country for the WINTER NATIONALS in February. The event is to be held at Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Savannah, Georgia February 22-24 culminating with $5,000 to-win feature event. OSP has a storied history as its long linage has featured many of NASCAR’s greats. The facility features a one-half mile slightly-banked 75-foot-wide dirt racing surface along with VIP suites and lots more.
FASTRAK officials and the Stone Family, who have owned OSP for many years, have put together a three-year deal to build the WINTER NATIONALS into one of the most prestigious events in the entire country for GM Performance crate engine Late Models.
“I am very glad to see FASTRAK back at OSP,” stated owner Andy Stone. “We supported FASTRAK and their concept from day one. They have stuck to their guns and done every single thing they said they’d do. I can remember meeting (FASTRAK founder) Stan Lester, who stated his goals the first time FASTRAK came to OSP in 2004, and now seeing them exceed them has been pretty amazing. Who would have ever believed they’d have 11 regions in four short years?”
“I’m glad to be back at OSP,” expressed Lester. “It’s a premier facility with a great staff. The first time we came to OSP I thought, ‘Wow we’re at a NASCAR track!’ I really look forward to this event and building on this for years to come. This is the perfect place for a winter event of this magnitude. We are fielding calls every day from teams coming to the race from as far as Wisconsin and South Dakota. The locals are also very tough in Savannah so it should make for some very good competition!”
The YOUNG GUNS Late Models and YOUNG GUNS Modifieds will also be competing the same weekend. The YOUNG GUNS’ annual event has been a big hit at OSP. And with the FASTRAK Late Models headlining the event, it should only bring in even more competition. “A lot of our younger drivers plan on competing in both,” revealed FASTRAK Southern Regional Director Jody Palmer. “Anyone 23 years of age and under is eligible for the YOUNG GUNS race.”
Open practice will be held for all competing classes on Thursday, February 22 with time trials and heat races on tap for Friday. Saturday will feature consis, last chance races, and the main event, which will award the winner a whopping $5,000!
FASTRAK surprised everyone when they paid their $250,000 point fund in 2006. The top 10 in points were paid in December at the FASTRAK booth at the PRI Show in Orlando, Florida. The point fund for the 2007 season nears $350,000 in total money paying weekly track champions $1,000, Regional Champions $5,000 and once again the National Champion the $50,000 in cash grand prize. FASTRAK members can qualify for the GRAND NATIONALS by simply running 51% of the shows at either a FASTRAK weekly-sanctioned track or at one of 11 regions covering 22 states across the country.
The WINTER NATIONALS will be an “optional” points race for all participants across the country. At the end of the year as points are calculated, members can either “drop” or keep this event for their points and this event will be included as part of the 51% needed for eligibility for the season ending championship.
