if someone was coming from the roanoke-salem area, what would be good directions to the track?

Hey Big Wheel you would need to come down 220 to Martinsville bypass get on Hwy 58 towards Stuart. When you go by the Wal-Mart in Stuart go by the hospital at the top of the hill take the next left into town. When you come to the stop light turn left on rt 8 southfollow signs for rt 8 south out of town. Go about 5 miles out of town and turn right on Hwy 103. Follow for about 7 or 8 miles into a 45 MPH speed zone in Claudville. Take 1st right on Hwy 104 beside 103 sure stop store. Follow for 6 miles and you will come to Blue Ridge Elementary School. Turn right on Friends Mission rd just past school. 1 1/2 miles track is on the left behind a white house with a green roof. See you there thanks for the interest.

It's about 2 hrs. from Roanoke is right. I'm think those directions (Above)are to the OLR from somewhere. They won't get you to Rolling Thunder Raceway though.

Trust me the best way coming from Roanoke to here is 220 to 58 alot quicker and less bends and turns not much difference on time. But if you like the scenic view that would be the way to come. Just depends on what you like to drive. I was thinking more along the line if you are pulling a car and trailer you don't want to be coming down and pulling the hills you would have too coming the parkway.

can you pull trailers on the parkway?????

I thought that was FORBIDDEN!

I know there is to be no commercial vehicles on the parkway as far as pulling smaller trailers not sure. They probably wouldn't care much for it to see a bunch of car trailers running up and down the parkway with no lights on etc. lol

No commercial vehicles on the parkway, but you could come 221 up Bent Mtn., go past Floyd, turn on Canning Factory Road, then Black Ridge Road, cross the parkway onto Rock Church Road then a left onto Willis Rd and come out on 58. You can immediately get off of 58W and take Rt. 614 which takes you down a mountain similar to 5 Mile Mountain called Squirrels Spur. At the bottom of Squirrel Spur take a right onto Ararat Highway, and you're almost at the the school where you turn onto Friends Mission Road. This way may be a little closer depending on which side of Roanoke you're coming from, but the roads are not as good as 220, 58 and 8. Or at Floyd, you could hang a left onto Rt 8S and go down Tuggles Gap Mtn. and pick up PoorBoys directions from that point. If you like challenging, narrow, moutain roads, there will be lots of adventures taking these routes. But the scenery is nice, and the deer are plentiful.

with that long of a distance from roanoke-salem, would the track owner allow to leave the UCAR at the track every week.

I just started following the postings for Rolling Thunder and was wondering who all will be involved with the weekly operations.

I need to clear up something on the directions. From the Claudville end of the road it is actually called Hey 773 instead of 104. We have always called it 104 because in NC it is 104, it just changes at the line. Hope I didn't mess anyone up. There should be some form of a sign to help everyone coming to the meeting at the end of the roads. Thanks hope to see everyone next sat.

I'll be involved with the weekly shows, as well as helping get things up and running. Along with several familar people you will recognize from other tracks. Several people have called and came to the track wanting to help us make Rolling Thunder Raceway one of the most popular, best run, and affordable racetracks in the area. We want everyone to enjoy racing and look forward to coming to run wth us each week.

LOL...... at Poorboy,
and you live how far from that road? ...5 miles ?...LOL......

I know what you mean though, I hate roads that keep going straight, but change numbers and names.
