– Race fans can circle another date on the 2007 calendar in anticipation of yet another premier Sprint Car event on the O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour, as Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway in Saluda, VA, will host the Inaugural East Coast Nationals on May 25 and 26.
The two-night spectacular will include not only the stars of the ASCS National Tour, but will also combine the forces of the ASCS Mid-Atlantic Region, the Heintz Performance ASCS Southern Tour and the Bobcat of Buffalo ASCS Patriot Region.
The Friday night preliminary feature event will offer up $2,500 to win, with the Saturday night, May 26, East Coast Nationals finale paying $6,000 to the winner. Saturday's finale will pay a strong purse throughout the field, with $450 just to start the main event.
"This will be a showcase event for Sprint Car teams based all along the Eastern seaboard," commented ASCS President and founder Emmett Hahn. "Throw in the National Tour guys with all the Regional guys in the eastern portion of the country and this will be one huge event. And what better place to have it than at Virginia Motor Speedway, which is a first-class facility all the way around."
Virginia Motor Speedway's East Coast Nationals will be the culmination of the O'Reilly American Sprint Cars on Tour East Coast Swing, which will be in action the night before, May 24, at Susquehanna Speedway Park in Newberrytown, PA. The remaining dates of the eastern swing are being finalized.
Gary Wright of Hooks, TX, recently capped his third consecutive ASCS National championship and will be back to vie for a fourth consecutive title in 2007. Coby Adams won the ASCS Southern Tour title by a mere five points, while Chuck Hebing carried the ASCS Patriots torch in 2006. The 2007 season will mark the inaugural year of action for the ASCS Mid-Atlantic Region.
The O'Reilly American Sprint Car Series National Tour visited the semi-banked, ½-mile Virginia Motor Speedway clay oval for the first time on May 27, 2006, with eventual Brodix Rookie of the Year Nick Smith coming away with the victory.
The 2007 season will mark the 16th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, with the series set to sanction more than 225 nights of racing at approximately 100 different race tracks throughout at least 30 different states and Canada.
