I just got back from Southside Speedway here in Richmond, VA. Southside is a slightly banked 1/3 mile asphalt oval that has been running since 1958. Originally named Royal Speedway and with a dirt surface, the track was paved and renamed a couple of years later. It's a very historic track with the likes of Ray Hendrick, Ted Hairfield, Emanuel Zervakis, Sonny Hutchins, Cal Johnson, Al Grinnin, Bill Dennis, Jimmy Pardue, Jim Pascal, Wendell Scott, Junior Johnson, Ned Jarrett, Bobby Allison, and more recently, Kevin Grubb, Woody Howard, and Denny Hamlin all racing, and winning, there. My proudest moment in racing was a win at this track.

I had originally planned on going up to Potomac Speedway in Maryland for a $2,500 to win SLM race but with my health issues  I thought I'd stay closer to home (Southside is 5 miles from me, Potomac is over 90 miles). I love my dirt track racing, but this was only my second visit to Southside this year and it gave me the opportunity to reflect on the significance of this grand old track to the history of stock car racing.

Anyway, here are the unofficial top 5 in each division:

Modified (100 laps)
1. Chris Dodson #0
2. Mike Rudy #8
3. Russ Ellis #33 (it may have been a different driver this week)
4. Jason Eberth #10
5. Aubrey Thurston #21

Notes: Thomas Stinson and Philip Morris were running 1-2 with 9 laps to go when both spun negotiating lapped traffic.

Special Note: Jason Eberth has become my favorite Southside modified driver as he spun out the Racecrap sponsored car of Jason Palmore, who was running second with 3 laps to go at the time. :muahaha:
Grand Stock (30 laps)
1. Mark Jenkins #31
2. Joey Bryant #01
3. Douglas Crigger #2
4. Tony Ingram, Sr. #9
5. Mike Ganoe #72

Notes: Winner Mark Jenkins started back in 10th spot.

Legend (25 laps)
1. Cameron Patrick #20
2. C E Falk #40
3. Max Smith #2
4. Kevin Yeatts #37
5. Pat Molesworth #47

U-Car (25 laps)
1. George Dickson #19
2. Ryan Wilbourne #21 (I may have the name wrong)
3. Chris Annarumma #01
4. Eric Hughes #2
5. Lee Bradbury #1
