SUMTER, S. C. - With two more races before a vacation until November 26, Sumter Speedway will host a 30-lap Late Model T&L special event as well as the last points program of the season Saturday night at the 3/8-mile dirt oval. This will conclude the 49th regular season, making it the third longest continuous operation of any short track in South Carolina.

The T&L feature will pay $700 to the winner with the second place finisher collecting $500. On Saturday night, September 3, the highlight of the program will be a demolition derby with $500 going to the winner. All six classes of cars will run on both programs.

Only two of the six championships have been decided with Banjo Duke capturing his second title. He won the Mini Stock 4 title while driving for veteran car builder Tommy Willard and piled up enough points to win the 2005 Super Stock 4 battle several weeks ago in a car owned and built by James Andrews. James Yost wrapped up the Pure Stock title last week, but a battle still continues for second place between Karen Cooper and William Disher.

Joey Ayers holds on to the lead in the Pro Stock division, but has a 61-point lead on James Stephens with only the Saturday race remaining. Defending Mini Stock 4 champion Tony Rabon has a 173-point lead on Cody McAllister, he would have to miss making the field and McAllister would have to win in order for the top position to change. It is a different story in the Pure Street and T&L classes, however, as Pure Street driver Pete McKenzie leads Matt Holland by a mere 11 points and Marty Horne by 53. The T&L competition is even closer as Robert "Duck" Pack leads Jody Truett by only nine points with Randy Hill only 25 points away from the top.

Two championships were decided on April 23rd when changes were made in the Pure Stock and Pure Street classes. A mini-season ended in the two classes and started back on May 7 with different rules. The top three finishers in each class will be awarded trophies as well as cash just as all the other top finishers for the season.
