MADISON, NC August 20, 2005- Ricky Weeks of Rutherfordton, NC the defending Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series Champion and the 2005 Clash points leader returned to one of his favorite tracks on the Clash circuit New 311 Speedway on this warm Saturday night.
Weeks took the pole sitter spot with a lap of 16.992 to earn his second Coca-Cola Pole award this season.
Danbury’s hard charger Gary Mabe and a many time winner at New 311 took the other front row spot in the 24 car field.
Weeks elected to move outside the front row for the 50 lap battle that paid $4,000 to win the 15th event of the 2005 Carolina Clash Series action.
Weeks powered his IV Corner Motorsports GRT machine to the point on the green flag lap with Mabe in his Hedgecock Builder Supply Barry Wright ride taking second in the opening laps and Rutherfordton’s Steve Hendren in his Hendren Racing Engine entry grabbed the third spot in the rundown.
Weeks had it hooked up again and called on his Clements Race Engine to keep him up front with Mabe never too far off his pace at various times in the showdown.
Hendren had his best effort of the year on this evening holding down the third spot watching the Weeks and Mabe battle shake down.
Mooresville’s Dan 'The Man' Breuer in his LB Racing- Barry Wright entry and Mt. Airy’s Billy Hicks in The Tobacco Special- Barry Wright mount duel most of the event to see who would finish fourth and Hicks finally after a hard battle with Breuer took the fourth spot with a handful of laps left in the event.
Weeks never let up in his quest for his seventh win in 2005 and rolled to the finish line with a good lead over Mabe as the checkers waved on Weeks for his 14th Clash All-Time win.
Hendren placed third for the evening followed by Hicks and Breuer fourth and fifth. This was Breuer's fifth straight Top 5 finish in Carolina Clash action over the last month.
Rookie contender David Dick of Summerfield, NC had his hands full most of the night with Inman’s speedster David Smith in his Hi-Bridge Mastersbilt ride as Smith gave it a real shot in the battle for the sixth spot.
Dick powered his Barry Wright- D&D Grading- New Dawn Reality mount powered by a Clements Race Engine to a sixth place finish with Smith taking the seventh spot in the final count.
Smith trails Weeks by 53 points going to the next Clash battle on September 10th at I-20 Speedway in Batesburg, SC.
Bob Robertson roared back from a broken shock to put the Newby Racing-Walter Newman ride in the eighth spot.
Former Clash Rookie of the Year winner Noel Tucker of Mt. Airy ran ninth in his South Main Service Center machine for Tucker Motorsports. Newcomer Rob McLaughlin in his first Clash start this year put the Mach II ride in the tenth spot in the final rundown.
Danbury’s Gary East took the eleventh spot and Saluda’s Speedster Deano Long ran twelfth and moves closer to the tenth spot in the points chase going to I-20 Speedway.
Terry Cardwell and Phil Hall both took hard hits as both slammed the wall on this night, both drivers are OK and will be ready to race again this weekend.
