Just wondering for those that have followed clr, If clr was to have something like and iroc race with matched cars of previous and past clr drivers who would you like to see in a 10 car field.
this brought back memories for me and i would love to hear some names that i have probably forgotten.
mine would be:
Britches Liles, Cy Nelms, Roger Mathews, Irvin Rigsbee, Mark Howell, Junior Pearce, James Batten, Ricky Sullivan, Shelton McNair, Jerry Massingill
That was harder than i thought but i believe it would be one heck of a show.

Ervin was the man. by far my favorite driver in history. i once saw him win at the old Champion Raceway Park with 2 broken tire rods. he steered the car with the brakes and passed kent wright for the win.
i would like to see the old crew
Louis White #7
Ervin Rigsbee #R5
Jerry Mckeel #3
Earl Arnold #1
Joe Huss #33
Shelton McNair #M3
Roger Mathews #49
Roger Lucas #79
Eddie Massengil #10
Rodney Brickhouse #02

RIP Roger Matthews. I always enjoied watching him race. I think if CLR had a Hall of Fame Roger would be one of the first in.
If I could pick some drivers for a race at CLR most of the names ya'll mentioned would be in it. How about Steve Mendenhall. He raced at CLR many times back in the day. More recently you would have to add Jeffery Tyndall

I can't compete with most of the names being mentioned here but i am proud to say i have turned quiet a few laps around there myself and even won a track championship there although that was a long time ago. they need to make the track back to what it used to be. i cant remember if they made it longer or wider but it kind went downhill after that. plus SNS opened up and alot of them went asphalt racing with dreams of goin nascar. should have stayed dirt and had some fun because all those dudes are still running local asphalt tracks with no plans of makin it big:sfan:

life runs in a circle now it is his turn to tell you what you are doing wrong and how he used to do it when he was in that situation. And i agree Red Dust. i guarantee those drivers would be having a lot more fun returning to their roots. look at a lot of the big time drivers now, they are returning. Just wish the local boys could see it.

I, for one, do believe it would be nice for CLR to have a "Yesterday's Heros" night like they used to and like FMS does now. Maybe some of the drivers could have a match race or something.

Irvans the man and Charlie was a cry baby. I saw the race at Brinkleyville when Irvan won with the left front tie rod broken, I don't remember who was in second but he would hit Irvan going in to the corner those last few laps and that is how Irvan won the race. I think I remember Bobby Bottoms win with a broken tie rod at clr also.

11-29-2006, 04:32 PM
yea Bobby won last year i think but yea was liftin up and the tire rod didnt affect the car to much.
Fordboys
11-29-2006, 09:40 PM
What makes you think Charlie is a crybaby. I have worked his cars for years and probably one of the fairest and cleanest drivers there is out there. But after 30 years of racing he was ready to keep his racing a little closer to the house. Not everyone that goes to asphalt is looking at trying to move up the ladder. I liked both each one has its own fun in it just at the time he quit running dirt the dirt car was costing alot more to run than asphalt, and the fun had turned into alot like work. Race for fun and when you stop having fun find another sport, I have been in it and around it for about 25 years and its just as much fun to me now as it ever was.

Yeah,I seem to remember who you beat in the points that year!!! That was a rough year for us,but you deserved to be champion(you see,i remember waaaay back when you ran up front and won races every week at CLR!!LOL) I think you had a teammate back then, maybe a #44,Red & White?? HA HA HA!!
How about Greg Williams back in the Mod 4 days.I'm talking about way back when he was running the pinto then the class changed to the tube Mod 4. 6 championships in a row and at least 10 wins a year. Watching Ronnie Johnson back then was always something.

I have a couple of videos from those days with me and that #44 prince guy exchanging gifts or that is what it looks like in the video. I know it couldn't have been a misunderstanding with your people or anything like that because things like that didn't happen back then. and if i won races that had to have been a long time ago!:10Cry:

naw i talked to ervin not to long ago. the only car he had left was his asphalt car and it was sold later that month. old man rigsbee will never race again. that sucks because he is dirt racing icon. everette is too lazy live JRodes said. he would have been awesome too. i saw him race a few times as a kid at wake county and he drove the wheels off that car until he got in trouble at school. then ervin took the car from him and that was all she wrote. the end of the rigsbee legacy

I would love to come back and race at CLR again but as for now my son gets my time money and full attention on his racing. He just finished up his 3rd season of racing and at 6 years old he has done a whole lot better than I ever have. Came down there and rode a kart one night but it just didn't feel right, I would have loved to have been in a late model that night as nice as the track was.
