PIKEVILLE — Bailey driver Kevin Beard registered his first 2005 Bombers division victory at Wayne County Speedway last weekend.

Also triumphant were Ray Tucker of Greensboro in Super 7 Late Model, Mark Dysart of Sanford in Sportsman, Buddy Isles Sr. in Thunder and Lightning, Jim Shuffield of Fayetteville in Open-Wheel Modified and Jim O'Neal of Fayetteville in Super Stock Four-Cylinder.

In Bombers, J.P. Cascell started from the pole, but Beard took control at the drop of the green flag. Beard did not relinquish the lead for the 15-lap distance.

Wilson's Tony Harrell charged to a second-place finish, with Cascell third.

Tucker seized his sixth Late Model win from the pole. Tucker had to keep his eyes upon a slide-by-slide battle for second place between Autryville's Jeffery Tyndall and Fayetteville's David Taylor.

Neal Sykes of Apex and Johnny Stovall of Madison also challenged as cautions took a toll. Tucker held off Tyndall. Sykes wound up third, Stovall fourth and Roger Lucas of Apex fifth.

The determined Dysart celebrated his first Sportsman victory from the pole. Princeton's Donnie Odom took the checkered flag, but a post-race weight inspection declared Dysart the victor.

Pearson was awarded second, with Lynn Coombs of LaGrange third, Tater Liles of Elm City fourth and Mike Cox fifth.

Bailey's Jerry McKeel Jr. claimed the Thunder and Lightning pole and the early lead. However, Isles would not be denied his first 2005 checkered flag.

McKeel Jr. held on for a runner-up finish, with Jerry McKeel Sr. on his son's bumper for third. Joel Wilson of Fayetteville took fourth.

Shuffield notched his second Open-Wheel Modified top finish of the season. Dale Erikson of Fayetteville started on the pole but his racer and Shuffield's car tapped on occasion before Shuffield shook Erikson off.

Craig Shuffield of Fayetteville slipped into a second-place finish, with Erikson third. John John Montgomery finished fourth.

In Super Stock Four-Cylinder, O'Neal registered his third flag-to-flag win. Pine Level's Dustin Mitchell pressured but settled for second place.

Chris Carpenter placed third, with Brandon Wells fourth and newcomer Nicky Etheridge fifth.
