BENSON, N.C. -- A shooting early Monday Morning that ended with two people dead appeared to be a murder-suicide, the Benson Police Department said.
At about 6:20 a.m., officers were called to a house on West Church Street, where they found two victims.
Benson Police Chief Kenneth Edwards said that it appeared Terrence Olando Savage, 32, shot his wife, Tammie White Savage, 36, with a .9 mm Smith & Wesson handgun, while she lay in bed and then turned the gun on himself.
Terrence Savage, who was pronounced dead at the scene, had apparently shot himself in the lower right abdomen, Edwards said. Tammie Savage had been shot once in the back of the head, but was still breathing and had a pulse. She was taken by ambulance to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn, but died en route.
