1995 Chevy 1500 4x4 (5.7 v-8)

Power steering leak.

Steering made a sound. Checked it and there was a leak. I added some Lucas oil power steering fluid/leak stop to it. The noise went away and The steering is fine now. Still have leak.

I think I am gonna replace the pump and pressure line, also return line.

Does that sound like the right thing to do? Is there a way around getting the pulley off without using a puller?

I am sure it's either the pressure line or the pump, considering the steering is still tight and has no play in it. I doubt it's the steering gear.

The first question should be what caused the noise and what is leaking.

Just throwing things at it until it goes away is not the answer.

You are better off to take it to a qualified mechanic and have the problem repaired.

The bottoms of the lines are usually O ringed and occassionally one of them goes bad.

Occassionally one of the lines develops a small crack and that also will cause a leak.

Occassionally the pump it's self will go bad requiring a replacement.

Sometimes the fittings in the top of the box are stripped and will not hold the nut properly.

Sometimes the adjustment nut for the box is mounted on a removable plate that starts to leak.

Sometimes the rubber hoses goes bad.

Sometimes the oil seal in the front of the pump goes bad because the bearing behind it is bad.

Yes you do have to have a special tool to remove the pullie from the pump.

Average price for a good one is around $36.00 A cheap one is around $12.00

Some of the newer GM vehicles require you to change the power steering fluid as often as 30,000 miles.

Thanks for the advice. I fixed the problem...Seems their was pin size hole in the high pressure hose..
